Tunnel to Towers Foundation to Provide Mortgage-Free Home
to the Family of Fallen Buffalo Firefighter

Firefighter Jason Arno was killed in the line of duty on March 1, 2023

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is honored to announce it will provide the family of fallen Buffalo Firefighter Jason Arno with a mortgage-free home.

Firefighter Arno was killed in the line of duty while battling a 4-alarm fire on March 1.

Arno, 37, was a three-year member of the Buffalo Fire Department. He left behind his wife, Sarah, and their daughter, Olivia.

“Firefighters like Jason Arno are different. When everyone else was running to safety, he ran into the flames to help fight this fire. In honor of his sacrifice and his service to his city, I promise that Sarah and Olivia will always have a place to call home,” said Frank Siller, Chairman and CEO of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s Fallen First Responder Home Program pays off the mortgages or provides a mortgage-free home for the families of law enforcement officers and firefighters who are killed in the line of duty, pass away from 9/11-related illnesses, and leave behind young children.

Today this truck saved the lives of our fire fighters. We use this truck as a blocker on scenes on the 219. Its function is to stop any out of control vehicles from running into the scene. Today a car spun out and hit the truck.

Please slow down when you see emergency lights! Please protect us while we protect you! Last year we had a sign hit this year our truck was hit. PLEASE let it end there! Slow down!

River Road Fire Co. would like to extend our deepest condolences and prayers to Buffalo FD at Engine 2 / Ladder 9, all of Buffalo FD, and to the family and friends of the fallen firefighter! Here is a special prayer for the fallen firefighter...

Holy and Eternal God, help us in sadness and darkness as we remember our fallen comrades. Comfort and strengthen us, as we honor those who have offered selfless service and the ultimate sacrifice of giving their lives in response of their duty; and may, we, O Lord pray that they have taken their rest from their labors, and have entered into the light of God as eternal rest.
Holy and Eternal God, we pray for their families, friends, and us. May they, and we, be comforted in our sorrow in the sure confidence of everlasting hope.

This question is asked often..

Do you have to pull over for volunteer firefighters in NY?

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Drivers in New York now have to slow down and move over for volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers as well as police and maintenance vehicles along roadsides.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed legislation expanding the state’s “Move-Over” law on Thursday.

Previously, the law only applied to drivers approaching stopped police, emergency, maintenance or towing vehicles with flashing red and white or amber lights. The new law applies also to vehicles with flashing blue or green lights that are operated by volunteer fire or ambulance workers involved in a roadside emergency.

The law requires highway drivers to slow down and move from the lane immediately adjacent to an emergency vehicle on the shoulder, unless traffic or other hazards prevent doing so safely.

Violators are subject to a $275 fine and three points on their license.

** Press Release**

At 0002 hrs, this morning, Kenilworth was alerted to a fire in one of the stores in the former Lakeland Auto plaza. Chiefs were on location within 2 minutes of dispatch. Smoke and fire were seen in stores within the plaza. Due to the size of the plaza Chiefs requested Auto Aid from all the town fire companies. A quick knock of the fire by the first in attack line limited the spread of the fire. No injuries were reported.
Kenilworth is proud to serve the residents of the Kenilworth Fire District and of the Town of Tonawanda.

FIREFIGHTER DAY @ MIRACLE LEAGUE
“IT'S FOR THE KIDS”

Last Sunday, The Miracle League of WNY hosted “Firefighter Day” at Veterans Park on Grand Island. Although the rain came and cooled things off a few minutes before the first pitch, things heated right back up and it turned out to be a great day for the kids!

The Miracle League of WNY is an organization that is designed to serve individuals who cannot be accommodated by established baseball leagues due to their special needs of their disabilities. What started out as a dream for residents of Grand Island quickly turned into reality with a tremendous amount of support from the community. More info can be found at miracleleaguewny.org.

Several volunteer members from Grand Island Fire, River Road Volunteer Fire Company, Bergholz Volunteer Fire Dept, Brighton Volunteer Fire Co #5, and Kenilworth Vol Fire Co. # 1 accompanied and assisted the kids while at bat, running the bases, along with pitching and fielding.

After a few short hours of fun and games, and a group photo in front of the fire trucks, followed what we believe is probably the best part of the event on a hot day (and even for us adults too) …cooling down from the cold water from a fire truck hose! With the help of the aerial Grand Island Truck #6 extended over the field, the super-soaker was activated from above!

We have a saying around GI Fire that “it’s for the kids” …and for sure, this past Sunday was a great day for the kids!

Thanks for the invite…We’ll see you next year!
