A reminder from Bobo Volunteer Fire & Rescue. ❤️🩹
When a structure fire happens in our community, we know people are going to be curious. We understand that. But we ask everyone to please remember that there is a family behind every call.
Yesterday, a family lost their home in a structure fire, and their children unfortunately saw pictures and learned what had happened before their family had the opportunity to tell them themselves.
We are asking our community to please be mindful of what is being photographed, posted, shared, and discussed while a family is experiencing something so devastating.
We also want to remind everyone please do not enter or attempt to enter a burned structure. Even when the fire appears to be out, a structure can remain extremely dangerous. There may be unstable floors, ceilings, hot spots, smoke, electrical hazards, or other dangers that are not visible from the outside. Please allow firefighters and other authorized personnel to do their jobs and keep a safe distance from the scene.
If you drive by an incident, please slow down, stay out of the way, and resist the urge to stop for pictures. Your curiosity should never put you, our firefighters, or the family at greater risk.
Most importantly, please remember that this isn’t just a building.
It’s someone’s home. Someone’s belongings. Someone’s memories. Someone’s childhood. Someone’s safe place.
There will always be time for pictures and information later. A family deserves the opportunity to process their loss and tell their children what happened in their own time and in their own way.
Thank you for helping us protect not only our community, but also the dignity and privacy of the families we serve. ❤️
