Workshop Description:
This seminar will define trial procedure as it relates to interpreting. With a focus on witness testimony, consecutive interpreting and notetaking, the class will engage in both theory and practical application of techniques and strategies for effective legal interpreting. The seminar will present evidence from research in the field of sign language interpreting demonstrating the effectiveness of each mode of interpreting. Participants will engage in intra-language exercises for notetaking in a legal setting, and then engage in practice activities using consecutive interpreting including notetaking. The course is designed to be presented in person over the course of two 6-hour days. The 12-hour course satisfies 1.2 Legal CEUs for RID purposes.
