This Memorial Day, we pause to remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Their sacrifice secured the freedoms we enjoy and their courage will never be forgotten.

Today, we honor them and hold their families in our prayers.

My team and I had a great night planting new seeds for brighter futures through Quest529.

Thank you to the Children's Discovery Center for being such a wonderful host and helping families learn more about saving for education in a fun, hands-on way.

Every bright future starts with a small first step.

Appreciate the opportunity to speak at a forum hosted by the Taiwan-American Friendship Association. Taiwan has been a tremendous ally and their free market has provided significant benefits throughout their region and the world. The trading partnership between both countries is important, and they are consistently one of Kansas’ top customers for our agricultural products.

I had a great time with my State Treasurer colleagues recently sharing some of the new educational resources we have developed here in Kansas. I discussed our Women & Money conferences, partnerships and other ways we have expanded access to financial literacy opportunities across the state. Thank you to the State Financial Officers Foundation (SFOF) for bringing us together to share best practices and policy thoughts.

April was Financial Literacy Month, and it reminds us that the habits shaping our financial futures are built in every season.

Spring captures something true about money: the seeds planted today won’t be harvested tomorrow, but with steady effort, patience, and the right knowledge, they can grow into lasting security. That steady progress is what financial literacy is really about.

This month, we focused on the fundamentals — budgeting, saving, planning ahead, and helping young Kansans understand money before life demands it of them. These aren’t complicated ideas. They’re practical ones. And in my experience, practical is exactly what people need.

No one wants jargon or complexity, they want guidance they can trust and steps they can actually take. That reality shapes what we do in the Treasurer’s Office.

Whether we’re helping Kansans save for education, prepare for homeownership, access better financial tools, or reclaim property that’s rightfully theirs, our mission is to empower Kansans to make informed decisions with confidence.

It is a privilege to serve you as your State Treasurer.

It’s Tax Day, and while you’re thinking about your refund, here’s one more place to look for a little extra money: unclaimed property.

The average unclaimed property return in Kansas is $630. That could be a nice boost on top of your refund.

My office returns lost money to Kansans every day, and searching is free, secure, and only takes a minute.

Before you finish the day, check your name at MissingMoney.ks.gov. You might have money waiting for you.
