“PHAT” Cats & Pawsitive Pathways Success!
We are thrilled to share the incredible progress we’ve made with our “PHAT” Cats and Pawsitive Pathways animal programs at Topeka Correctional Facility!
Today, our program has grown significantly, and we are proud to report that we currently have 37 animals in total:
- 2 mother dogs
- 17 puppies
- 4 adult dogs
- 2 adult cats
- 14 kittens

This remarkable growth would not have been possible without the dedication and support of key staff members who have empowered our success.
THANK YOU all! We are already witnessing the positive impact on our culture and the improved survival rates of the animals under our care.

TCF would like to thank Tasha Layton and Life 88.5 and our LEAD volunteers for coming and supporting the women. We would also like to thank Life Grillers for all they did to help and feed folks.
We appreciate everyone who donated and helped out, the women had a wonderful time and so many stopped our staff to say thanks and they felt loved and supported.

Day 4 and 5 of Corrections Week were a hit! We did a lot of EXTRA things.
Thursday was the day for an ice cream social and a glance at the guess who baby board.
Friday was a fun filled day of pictures in the photo prop, bbq pulled pork sandwiches and giveaways which included cakes, 12 packs of soda and gift cards and who could forget the pie to the face of your favorite IMT member!
This week was fun and full of appreciation for all of those who work tirelessly at TCF to keep those that live and work there safe day after day.

Corrections week Day 3 was another great day. The staff enjoyed pizza and popsicles and then got a sneak peek of the guess who baby pictures board for Thursday. Staff also continued working on assembling the puzzle.
TCF is incredibly grateful for its staff and the number of fun conversation and laughs that have been shared thus far.

Corrections Week's second day was a notable success. The Cheers for Peers Boards were completed and prepared for staff to recognize and support each other. Staff were treated to morning pastries, afternoon Chips and Queso, and goody bags containing snacks for their shift. The day featured stimulating conversations, laughter, and more time together working on our puzzle together.

To commemorate Corrections Week, TCF started the morning with a 1,000-piece puzzle, inviting all staff to join in and try to finish it by the end of the week. The day concluded with each shift visiting the access points for pleasant conversation and a baked potato bar.

We are excited to announce our partnership with Helping Hands Humane Society in the PHATCAT (Placing Homeless and Terrific Cat) program. Starting Tuesday, 2/25, we received our initial batch of two kittens and one end of life cat, which our residents will care for and nurse back to health. The program strives to build connection, care, and compassion in our residents while providing love and support to a furry little one in need. Helping Hands Humane Society
