This includes a staff of eight that perform administrative, clerical and fleet functions. The remaining personnel are pai

d professional firefighters, of which 220 are State certified Emergency Medical Technicians trained to render aid in emergency situations; and Webster, an Accelerant Detection canine trained to detect ignitable liquids used to set and/or accelerate fires. The Department is comprised of many organizational units and teams working together to help keep Topeka one of the safest communities in the Midwest to live and raise a family. A huge THANK YOU to all the blood donors, volunteers, and American Red Cross staff members who helped make the 2026 Battle of the Badges Blood Drive a tremendous success! ❤️

Because of the generosity of our amazing blood donors, 40 units of life-saving blood were collected during this year’s event — donations that will help patients and families in need throughout our community. ❤️🩸

Events like Battle of the Badges are only possible because of the incredible support from community members willing to donate blood, volunteers who give their time, and the dedicated Red Cross staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make the event run smoothly.

And now… congratulations to 👮🏆 THE TOPEKA POLICE DEPARTMENT 🏆👮 for earning this year’s Battle of the Badges Trophy bragging rights in the friendly competition with the 🚒 Topeka Fire Department!

Today, we honor and remember the courageous men and women of the United States Armed Forces who gave their lives in service to our nation. Their bravery and sacrifice helped protect the freedoms we cherish every day. 🇺🇸

As we spend time with loved ones this Memorial Day, may we never forget the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice so others could live in freedom.

🧽 Spring Maintenance in Full Swing at TFD 🧽
With warmer weather and sunshine finally here, crews with the Topeka Fire Department are taking advantage of the spring season to give fire apparatus a little extra TLC! ☀️

Today, firefighters gave Aerial 8 and Engine 7 a thorough top-to-bottom spring cleaning to help keep the vehicles and equipment in tip-top shape and ready to respond at a moment’s notice. The 100-foot aerial ladder was carefully cleaned rung by rung, while crews also power washed and degreased the jacks, joints, undercarriage, and other critical components. The process was repeated as needed to ensure a detailed and complete cleaning. 🚒✨

Maintaining the department’s fleet of trucks, engines, aerials, and other very expensive equipment is an important part of emergency preparedness. These apparatus are vital tools that firefighters rely on every day to help protect lives and property throughout our community. Regular maintenance and inspections help ensure the equipment is response-ready for any emergency situation.

A little spring cleaning today helps keep Topeka safer tomorrow! ❤️🔥

After an incredible day of friendly competition and community support at the 2026 Battle of the Badges Blood Drive, this year’s Battle of the Badges Trophy winner is… 👮🏆 THE TOPEKA POLICE DEPARTMENT! Congratulations Team TPD!

With this year’s victory, the Topeka Police Department and the Topeka Fire Department are now officially tied with FIVE wins each as we celebrate the 10-year anniversary of this life-saving community event! 🚒🤝👮

Most importantly, THANK YOU to all the amazing donors who participated in the May 18 blood drive. Because of your generosity, 40 pints of blood were collected — potentially helping save more than 100 lives in our community. ❤️🩸

Over the past 10 years, Battle of the Badges donors have helped collect more than 510 units of blood, making a lasting impact on countless patients and families in need.

Thank you to every donor, volunteer, sponsor, and supporter who helped make this milestone year such a success. Topeka continues to show what community teamwork and compassion can accomplish together. ❤️

Welp, You don’t see this every day 🐍 😱 The crew members at Fire Station 10 🚒 were able to help a patron who stopped and had a 4ft rat snake slithering around their dash. Thankfully, no one was hurt and the snake was safely removed. If you need assistance with wildlife removal and it’s not a life-threatening emergency, please contact a local wildlife refuge or private pest control company for assistance.
