3 states have said they will block ratifying the ERA if it is finally ratified. Let that sink in 3 states in the United States want to keep women from being granted equal rights under the constitution. This is 2019 and women are still not granted full equality in the constitution.

If your senators have not signed Sen Cardin' ERA bill, ask them to now and keep asking until they become a sponsor:
Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) announced the addition of 16 cosponsors to SJ Res 6, the bipartisan Senate bill to remove the time limit on the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) that he co-leads with Senator Lisa Murkowski (AK). Included in those joining today: Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Minority Leader of the Senate, and Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. It was announced earlier this week that Virginia Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner were added as cosponsors to the bill. It is anticipated that Virginia will vote to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment and become the final, 38th state required for full ratification. Senators Angus King (I-ME) and Susan Collins (R-ME) have long been cosponsors of SJ Res 6.
As you know, on November 13th the House Judiciary Committee voted 21-11 in favor of reporting Rep Jackie Speier's bill HJ Res 79 to the House for a floor vote. Speaker Nancy Pelosi is expected to schedule a vote on HJ Res 79, which has a decisive 223 co-sponsors and is expected to pass easily.

Here is the Coalition's statement:
The ERA Coalition is pleased to see so many U.S. Senators who recognize that it is time to give equality to the girls and women of this country. We now call on House Speaker Pelosi to schedule a full floor vote in the House as soon as possible. This Senate action, the expected ratification vote in Virginia, and last week's Judiciary vote on HJ Res 79 to remove the time limit highlight the groundswell in favor of ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment. Our thanks to Senators Cardin and Murkowski for their strong leadership.

We will keep you posted on any developments. Thank you for your hard work and support!

James A. Thompson and Brent Welder got a shout out in the latest e-mail from Cory M. Archibald of BNC:

Joe -- I know many of you have been volunteering on local campaigns or have been following different races around the country, and that this week’s elections offered something of a mixed bag of results. I think we have a lot to celebrate, and I'd like to highlight a few things.

In Virginia, Democrats took control of the state legislature for the first time in over 20 years. One of them was Lee Carter, an unabashed Democratic Socialist who won re-election in Manassas, VA, the heart of the military-industrial complex where the median income is $100K.

Also winning re-election to the Virginia House of Delegates was Danica Roem, the first openly transgender woman elected to any state legislature. In 2017, Danica defeated a conservative Republican self-described “chief homophobe” who had held the seat for 13 terms.

Kentucky voted out Matt Bevin, the Tea Party governor who gutted school funding and teachers' healthcare, leading to an uprising of teachers across the Bluegrass State. Bevin was defeated by Andy Beshear, the son of the former Democratic governor and champion of voting rights. Beshear’s victory could spell trouble for Mitch McConnell in 2020.

The progressive wave swept many of our major cities as well. New York City voters overwhelmingly approved a ballot initiative to adopt ranked choice voting. In Philadelphia, the Working Families Party won a city council seat for the first time in history. And in Seattle, the $1.45M Amazon dumped into the city council race wasn’t enough to stop the momentum behind Tammy Morales.

Just as small dollars make a big difference, small victories are still victories.

Back in 2018, after AOC won her primary, she joined Bernie Sanders to endorse James Thompson and Brent Welder running in Kansas. James would go on to win his primary, though Brent lost by a hair after groups like Emily’s list dumped hundreds of thousands of dollars on false and misleading ads to cut him down and prop up the more pliable Democrat.

Although she had been a national political figure for all of five minutes, the press seized on Alexandria’s endorsement and Brent's loss and proof that progressive values don't work outside of “liberal New York City.” AOC responded (and I'm paraphrasing), "We organized and activated thousands of volunteers across this country, and you cannot un-organize them."

The work being done in this movement on campaigns will continue to pay off for years. Every time a volunteer steps up to work on a campaign or a ballot initiative, they build experience and expertise. Every time a candidate mounts a campaign we learn new lessons about organizing.
No one can take that away from you.

The tide has turned. Working people are done letting billionaires play with our lives while millions go hungry; while tens of thousands die because they can’t afford basic medical care; while skyrocketing rents push families into homelessness.

We are taking a stand today and telling the rich and powerful they can’t have it all. We are fighting for a life of dignity for all people.

Every inch we move the conversation is a victory. Every new voter won is a victory. We will keep working, and we will keep winning. We are going to dismantle the oligarchy brick by brick and together we will build a society where working people will thrive.

In solidarity,
Cory Archibald

Abbie Hodgson wasn't at the protest on Tuesday but she was paying attention nonetheless. For anyone who doesn't get her campaign e-mails check out what she sent today. I edited all the stuff out that wouldn't copy over correctly from the e-mail body.
Joe,

we're seeing an amazing response since we told our supporters about the outcry Steve Watkins is facing over his opposition to the Violence Against Women Act.

On Tuesday, Kansans rallied in Topeka to call out Steve Watkins for his opposition to the Violence Against Women Act. He was grilled at a town hall in August about his shameful vote, and repeatedly dodged questions about the issue. He's learning fast that his constituents are fed up with his record and lack of accountability.

So what do you do when your member of Congress opposes legislation to stop domestic violence against women? You protest, you organize, you vote, and you elect women.

I have a long history of fighting so that women are heard and believed -- even if it’s unpopular or comes at a personal cost. More politicians should stand with women, against their party and special interests if necessary.

Watkins won't do that, so we need to show that we have what it takes to beat him.

Out protesting Steve Watkins.
