The Topeka Public Schools Board of Education will meet on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at the Burnett Administrative Center, 624 SW 24th Street. The meeting will begin at 12:00 p.m., with the public session scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m. Please note this meeting has been moved from the Board's regularly scheduled June 18 meeting date.

As part of the consent agenda, the Board will consider several items supporting district operations, student learning, and employee services. These include annual renewals for workers' compensation, property and liability insurance coverage, fire alarm inspections and maintenance, and PowerSchool's District Perform and SmartFind Express applications. The Board will also consider purchases of musical instruments for secondary schools, Texas Instruments calculators, staff laptops, reading intervention materials, and funding for professional development and conference participation.

Additional agenda items include approval of financial reports, personnel recommendations, board meeting minutes, grant agreements, facility improvement projects, and contracts supporting teaching and learning. The Board will also consider Resolution 26-012 regarding a FY26 GAAP Waiver.

There has been a lot of excitement during the final week of our 2026 Summer Programs! We hope all of our students have enjoyed a fun, engaging, and successful summer learning experience. 💙☀️📚 Yesterday, Dr. Anderson visited Williams Science and Fine Arts Magnet School and Meadows Elementary School to see all of the awesome activities taking place.

We send a special congratulations to Mrs. Mahuya Thakur, who teaches at Highland Park Central Elementary School and is spending her summer teaching students in our Academic Summer Program at Williams. Mrs. Thakur will be getting married tomorrow, and we are excited to celebrate this special milestone with her! Join us in wishing her congratulations!

Congratulations to Mrs. Jennifer Antonetti, Band Director at Topeka High School, on being named a recipient of the 2026 Wolfe Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Kansas School of Education & Human Sciences! 🎶🏆

Mrs. Antonetti was nominated by former student and KU senior Owen Deines, who shared that her lessons extended far beyond music, teaching him the value of effort, leadership, and caring for others. Her dedication to students and passion for education continue to make a lasting impact long after students leave her classroom.

This prestigious award recognizes outstanding high school teachers who have made a profound difference in the lives of their students. We are incredibly proud of Mrs. Antonetti and grateful for the positive influence she has on generations of Trojans!

Happy Father’s Day! 💙 Today, we celebrate the fathers, grandfathers, and father figures who make a difference in the lives of our students, families, and community each day. Thank you for your love, guidance, encouragement, and support.

Congratulations to our 2026 Millie Murphy Award recipient, Mrs. Lorene Brunzel!

For the past six years, Mrs. Brunzel has generously donated handmade quilts to the TPS Community Cupboard, bringing warmth, comfort, and kindness to countless students and families. After retiring in 1997, she discovered a passion for quilting and has since dedicated her time and talent to serving others throughout the community.

Mrs. Brunzel and her husband recently celebrated an incredible 70 years of marriage and are proud parents of two children. Over the years, she has donated hundreds of quilts to the TPS Community Cupboard, making a lasting impact on those in need.

This week, students and staff across our Summer Programs took time to learn about and celebrate Juneteenth.

At Ross Elementary: Signature Music School and Eisenhower Middle School: Signature Music School, students participated in a powerful all-school assembly presented by Dr. Regina Platt, who brought Juneteenth history to life while inspiring students through messages of youth empowerment and cultural pride.

At Jardine Elementary School, students explored the significance of Juneteenth through engaging learning activities and even created Juneteenth parfaits in the Kids Cooking summer course. 🍓🍨

We are grateful to our educators and community partners for creating these meaningful opportunities for TPS scholars! 🖤❤️💚
