Last week, Cornerstone of Topeka held our board elections, marking both a meaningful transition and a continuation of strong leadership.

After serving two full terms (4 years!) as Board President, Mark DeGroff officially passed the gavel. As tradition dictates here at the Buchanan Center, that means a stop in front of the “presidential portraits” for one last photo. We’re still waiting to hear if his portrait will be added to the wall. 😊

We’re excited to welcome Cody Fredrickson as our new Board President. Cody previously served as Treasurer, and we’re grateful for his continued leadership in this new role.

We’re also pleased to introduce our full slate of officers:
• Vice President: Dana Dobbie-Blindt
• Treasurer: Jonathan Henry
• Secretary: Wayne French

We also want to extend our sincere thanks to our outgoing officers for their service:

WOW! Today we were shocked at the volume of donations from Countryside United Methodist Church for our Transitional Housing Pantry! We are so grateful! 28 of our 215 Housing units are dedicated to the recently homeless and when those tenants move in, they receive a laundry basket full of household supplies such as cookware, towels, personal hygiene products, etc.

Cornerstone of Topeka attended the annual Kansas Housing Conference in Overland Park. We had such a great time. We met alot of great people and received alot of new information from our sessions and had great speakers. This year we werer finalist for the "Show Off Your Service". Though we did not win, it was a wonderful experience.

Please join us on Wednesday night, June 25th in the Kay's Garden Event Center at the Topeka Zoo as we bestow Federal Home Loan Bank, Topeka with the, Otto & Jane Schnellbacher Lifetime Service Award. FHLBank Topeka is a long time valued partner of Cornerstone of Topeka.

Social Hour begins at 5:30, Dinner at 6:30, Program at 7 and everyone is on their way home by 8.

Tickets are $40 each and include dinner and drinks.

We are thrilled to announce that as of Monday, all four units in our two duplex development on SE Alkire are occupied! Construction was completed in late December on these 2 and 3 Bedroom units. They are just North and East of 6th and Golden. Construction on these affordable homes was financed by SORT Grant funds from The City of Topeka, an American Rescue Plan Grant from the City of Topeka and a loan from Community Bank, Topeka. With these duplexes, our Southern Hills Senior Homes Development at 37th and Adams and the 3BR Home at 1355 SW Fillmore, In 2024 Cornerstone of Topeka brought a total of 29 new construction, affordable rental housing options to our community. We are so happy with the construction done by Shirley Construction on all of these homes. Special thanks to our Housing Director, Dora Coronel who led our lease up efforts as well as our board of directors who, lift us up and support our organization as we grow!
