Kansas Water Office We are the water planning, policy, coordination, and marketing agency for the state.

The Water Office coordinates the Kansas water planning process in concert with the Kansas Water Authority. The Authority's 24 members include representatives from diverse water use interest groups and leaders of the state's natural resource agencies. Advice on policy development comes from Basin Advisory Committees in each of the state's 12 river basins and other local stakeholders. The Authority,

in turn, advises the Governor and Legislature on water issues to be considered for policy enactment.

Should you wash dishes by hand or use a dishwasher?

Today's dishwashers save water compared to hand-washing, using as little as 3-4 gallons per cycle versus up to 27 gallons to hand-wash with the faucet running continuously.

For the biggest impact:
💧Only run full loads.
💧Avoid pre-rinsing dishes (scrape instead).
💧Use an energy-efficient machine on eco-mode.

Excited for this project that will develop a better understanding of the Ogallala aquifer!

The KGS and partners soon will take to the skies above southwest Kansas to develop a better understanding of the Ogallala aquifer. From late May through late July, helicopters towing a large hexagonal frame will perform airborne electromagnetic surveys of parts of Groundwater Management District 3.

Data collected during the flights will help the district develop strategies for use of the aquifer, its principal water resource.
