Join us as we celebrate the incredible journey Lieutenant Akim Reynolds has had as a law enforcement officer with the Shawnee County Sheriff's Office 👏
Reynolds began his career with the Shawnee County Sheriff's Office on December 23rd, 1996. He served for eight years as a deputy in the Narcotics Division. He was nominated by the KBI for a “bronze award” due to his m**h lab work in 2000. In 2004, Reynolds was assigned to be the Victim/Witness Coordinator for the agency and served in the Offender Registration Unit. In 2005, he was promoted to corporal in the Patrol Unit on 2nd shift. In April of 2006, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant and stayed on 2nd shift patrol.
In 2007, Reynolds received the Outstanding Community Service Award, which is given to citizens who deserve to be commended for an outstanding act of community service. On several different occasions, he pulled money from his own pockets to help someone else in need. On one occasion, he bought a bus ticket for someone that was stranded in Topeka. On another occasion, he assisted a family from Sabetha by providing them with food and paying for their tow bill when their vehicle was broken down. A commander at that time said, “Not only is Sergeant Reynolds an outstanding officer, he is also a Good Samaritan. He sets the example for the rest of us to emulate.”
In 2008, Reynolds was promoted to the rank of lieutenant, where he worked on 3rd shift patrol until about 2014 when he moved to 1st shift lieutenant. In 2017, he transferred into Services and was their lieutenant until his retirement. Lieutenant Reynolds served on the Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) Team from 2001 until 2009. He was an instructor for the agency and a field-training officer during his career. He completed the FBI-LEEDA trilogy. He has a long list of certifications, education, and trainings that he has accomplished throughout his career.
Reynolds has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the Kansas State University and a master’s degree in administration of justice from Wichita State University.
His lovely wife, three daughters, and three grandsons have supported Reynolds throughout his almost 28-year career.
Congratulations on your retirement, Lieutenant Reynolds!
