Open Heart Outreach

Open Heart Outreach Open Heart Outreach is an organization that helps provide families with much needed clothing. Each situation is different.

A note from Rick & Dee Dee:

We are a blended family of 7 and we have chosen to give back to our community by starting a family run "help" system. Our goal is to collect clothing from those who have extra and offer it to those who need help keeping their family clothed at no expense. We believe everyone is just one crisis away from needing help but we also know that sometimes even those who are em

ployed, still have trouble providing basic needs. Among those whom we offer our support to are: families who receive State Assistance, qualify for free/reduced lunch and tuition, provide foster care, or families who are struggling just to pay bills. We accept donations of all clothing in great condition, launder it, store it and then open it up to any and all who need it! We have frequent Open Closet events where you come and shop for free. Please watch for volunteer opportunities and for dates and times of our Open Closet. Please also look at our partner outreach program "Open Totes"! This program collects new and gently used, bags/luggage/totes and backpacks and distributes them to foster children in the area. We believe that foster kids deserve the dignity that comes with transporting their belongings in suitable, respectable totes and NOT TRASH BAGS! We appreciate your desire to help your community!

We've been contacted for assistance with a baby boy, 3-6 months and or 6-9 months. Can anyone help us help them?

Good morning OHO family. We come to you hoping you are healthy and safe and that you are receiving resources needed to help you during this pandemic. We wanted to connect with you to let you know the current state of OHO collections and distributions.

We had hopes of being able to do a back to school give away this year and have received several donations in effort to prepare for that. Current regulations have prevented us from being able to host a clothing give away as there is no way to do it safely and allow you all to come together in our traditional give away form. We've also discussed alternate ways to host the clothing give aways...time slots, limited numbers, item limits, none of which seem feasible because we don't have a permanent set up in which to stagger these times through the week.

After the latest numbers of increasing cases has come to light and the new order to wear masks in all public places, we are unsure when we are even going to be allowed to set up again. We've made the difficult decision to take the limited inventory we have and donate it to local organizations that can distribute on a case by case basis. These locations are equipped to meet one on one with families and individuals as needed where we are not. We will NOT be donating these items to organizations who choose to sell them at discounted pricing. We choose to give them to school resource centers, church clothing banks, domestic abuse help centers, fostar care agencies and community organizations that will offer them to those in need and not with profit in mind.

We could hold onto them while we wait for this virus to die down or until we get the go from the state, but it seems wasteful to keep them in storage here when people could be using them in the months to come. For now, we will be stop receiving donations and focus on getting items to those who we have been working with first, then determining how best to distribute the rest of our donations to reach the families that need them.

We miss you.
We pray for you.
We worry about you and your kids.

We continue to donate Essential Matters bags to foster and adoptive families as needed during this time. Please, keep yourselves and your families safe! We love you so much and will let you know as soon as things change.

Friends!

We have received some donations that need to be laundered and sorted for size/appropriateness/current style. Who needs a project and/or service hours?

Just a reminder!

We still need items for these kids! If you had some and planned to deliver, please make that a priority.

Check closets folks and help us get them taken care of!

Another opportunity!

We are in need of an adult men's XL coat for an elementary school aged student. I KNOW one of you have this waiting to find a new home :) Again...message me right away!

Friends and family! We have an immediate and urgent need that came to us after our give away (which means we don't have items to provide them). I'm posting a list and if you can help them meet this need, let me know right away!

These kiddos lost everything. We don't need the details nor do we need to know the circumstances. What we know is they need us right now.

14 year old girl -
pants - ladies/juniors small/medium
shirts - medium
underwear - medium
coat - medium
needs backpack, underwear and socks

15 year old boy -
jeans - 32x32
pants - men's medium
shirts - men's large
coat - men's large
needs backpack, underwear and socks

They can use anything in these sizes so if you find hoodies, pajamas, etc please bring it. Message me and we will get you a drop off spot and contact name.

Thanks so much!

It's been a minute since we posted about our Essential Matters bags, so I thought I'd send this out. We are always accepting donations for these bags and will take them at anytime. We offer full sized items to the kids receiving the bags so they last longer!

As a reminder, these bags are given to children and teens who are entering the foster care system or being moved around from home to home while the courts determine permanency. The bags are given to them to keep as their own with items they can keep and not have to ask for. Please look at this list and let us know if you can help! These kids deserve our support and they deserve to have at the very least, their own personal care items.

Teens:
Pillowcase
Blanket or Throw
Soap
Conditioner
Shampoo
Hair brush/Comb
Toothbrush
Toothpaste
Hair accessories
Deodorant
Pads/Tampons
Perfume or body sprays/cologne
Lotions
Journal/pen
Tissues

Kids:
Pillowcase
Blanket or Throw
Bubble Bath or bath crayons
Conditioner
Shampoo
Hair brush/Comb
Toothbrush
Toothpaste
Hair accessories
Small toy or fun items
Book
Color book/crayons
Slipper socks

We will of course offer jewelry, nail polish, or other novelty items if we have them donated but they are just extras we would add to the bags.
