YWCA Northeast Kansas

YWCA Northeast Kansas YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting social justice for all. They come for job training and career counseling. But they come.
(1)

The YWCA is the oldest and largest multicultural women's organization in the world. Across the globe, we have more than 25 million members in 106 countries, including 2.6 million members and participants in 300 local associations in the United States. More important than the numbers, is our mission to eliminate racism and empower women. We provide safe places for women and girls, build strong wome

n leaders, and advocate for women's rights and civil rights in Congress. Women come to us in times of crisis, as survivors of rape or domestic violence. They come for childcare. They come for health and fitness. They come for a variety of reasons. And they leave with a renewed spirit, new skills, and stronger lives.

The ripple effects of violence extend far beyond those directly involved—they impact the well-being of our entire community.

In light of recent violence in our area, the Capital Peace Project will be hosting a Shooting Response Peace Gathering to come together in support, reflection, and collective action. Details below.

Now more than ever, we must work together to address the disparities and risk factors that contribute to violence in our neighborhoods. Join us as we build a resilient community where everyone feels safe, valued, and supported.

Sometimes joy looks like sidewalk chalk. 💜🌈

Thanks to donated chalk, clients at our Day Center have been sharing stories about drawing on sidewalks, decorating parks, and spending time outdoors with family and friends. Our advocates even invited clients to “hopscotch into services,” creating moments of connection, laughter, and support along the way.

Small donations can make a big impact, bringing comfort, creativity, and joy to the people we serve every day.

Federal funding is critical to ensuring survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault can access lifesaving services and support. Funding delays have real and immediate consequences for survivors and the programs they depend on.

Earlier this week, our Community Engagement Team led Washburn University nursing students in the In Her Shoes simulation.

This powerful experience invites participants to move, think, and make decisions as someone navigating an abusive relationship—building deeper understanding of the barriers, complexities, and realities survivors face every day.

Thank you to these future healthcare professionals for showing up with openness and a willingness to learn. 💛
