On Wednesday, Secretary of DCF and the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services, Laura Howard, celebrated summer interns for the State of Kansas at the Intern Day Kickoff Event in Topeka. She shared about the crucial impacts that internships have in shaping the next generation of public servants and some personal anecdotes about our commitment to Kansans.

DCF’s Office of Background Investigations receives requests for background checks through the Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry and the Adult, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation Central Registry.

To better serve Kansans and improve efficiency, this process has gone digital. As of June 1, 2026, requests can be made through a convenient online portal. Paper requests are not accepted and emailed requests will no longer be accepted after July 1, 2026.

Each June, we recognize Elder Abuse Awareness Month and provide education to help reduce abuse, neglect and financial exploitation of older adults.

Elder abuse is significantly underreported, with only 1 in 14 cases coming to the attention of authorities according to worldelderabuseawareness.com.

If you suspect an adult is being abused, neglected or financially exploited, report it immediately to the Kansas Protection Report Center at 1-800-922-5330.

New location. Same team. Same services. Beginning June 1, 2026, our Overland Park Service Center will serve Kansans from our new Lenexa Service Center at:

The new location is next to a city bus stop, making it easier for residents to access the service center. Our phone numbers, fax numbers and electronic communications will remain the same.

SUN Bucks benefit distribution begins tomorrow for families with children who were approved for SUN Bucks 2026! The $120 one-time benefit (per eligible child) will be loaded onto a family’s existing EBT card or on a new EBT card that will be mailed to the family’s home.

Benefits are expected to be distributed in order of last name over the next week.

If you did not receive a SUN Bucks approval letter from DCF, but believe your child may be eligible, you can submit an application at SUNBucks.dcf.ks.gov. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. on Aug. 31, 2026.

While using your benefits, watch out for skimming devices and track your purchases with the ebtEDGE mobile app or at ebtedge.com. Learn more: ebtcards.dcf.ks.gov.
