Hi All,
Just a heads up, beginning at 7pm tonight we will be doing snow removal from downtown/Main St. there will be multiple large machines including Dump trucks removing the snow. Please use caution while trying to navigate the piles and equipment. We should have it wrapped up by 11pm. Thank you in advance for your patience 🇺🇸👍

Well as if we hadn’t had enough this winter 🤦🏼‍♂️ it looks like we have a block buster bearing down on us again. This could be a potentially dangerous storm with the amount of snow and the high winds, trees and power lines may come down as well. Please keep in mind there is a town wide street parking ban once it begins snowing. We will really need your cooperation helping us maintain public safety with all vehicles off the road. Stay safe everyone 🇺🇸👍

Some quick emergency repairs between storms to one of our older Salt spreaders. Should be ready for tomorrow’s storm. Really thankful for the crew we have to be able to make the repairs in house on the fly 🇺🇸👍

Good afternoon,
I hope everyone has weathered the last storm and the cold. We are continuing to get caught up on widening our roadways and get fire hydrants dug out. Any help from residents with hydrants would be greatly appreciated. Tonight we will be working from 6-11pm removing snow from the downtown area. We will also be working on intersections tomorrow and Friday anticipating the potential for more snow on Sunday. Thank you again for your patience and working with us to help get our roads cleared.

I have to give a huge shout out to my incredible DPW crew for their tireless work over the last 36 hours straight and to the Residents for working with us staying off the roads while we try to deal with this recent storm. I have had to send the crew home to get some much needed rest. Rest assured we will be back at it first thing in the morning continuing our work cleaning up this most recent storm. While praying the next one misses us Sunday. Thank you in Advance for your understanding and support.

Good morning All,
With the threat of a major snow event Sunday in to Monday i need to remind everyone that Topsfield DPW is responsible for the maintenance of 60 miles of roadways. In order to properly remove snow from our roads to provide better travel conditions, the town implements a parking ban anytime it snows. If you are unsure if there is a parking ban, Use this rule of thumb, If it’s snowing, You can’t park on the street! The Town strictly enforces its parking ban and in extreme cases, towing may be required. A reasonable effort will be made to make notification prior to towing. The Water Department has implemented a Mandatory Outdoor Water Use Restriction starting today. The restriction is needed due to very low Ipswich River streamflow and concerns about the availibilty of water.

Non-essential outdoor water use is restricted to hand-held implements and drip irrigation systems used before 9 AM or after 5 PM each day. The use of spray irrigation systems at any time is prohibited.

The restriction applies to water customers and private wells located on parcels served by Town water.

Essential outdoor uses that meet a core business function, are required by permit or needed for public safety are allowed. Please visit topsfieldpublicworks.org for more information.

The Water Department is in the process of surveying all non-residential properties for cross connections. Cross connections pose a risk to public health if contaminants are siphoned in to the water system during a low pressure event or pumped into the water system.

The surveys are done periodically and are required by MassDEP. The purpose of the survey is to identify all non-potable connections to the water system, determine the degree of hazard of each connection and make sure it is either eliminated or protected by an appropriate back-flow device. There is no charge for the survey.

A certified Cross Connection Surveyor from Water Safety Services of Woburn will be conducting all of the surveys. Please call the Water Department at (978) 887-1517 if you have any questions.

The Select Board voted at their June 2nd meeting to remove all water restrictions effective immediately. The declared drought that started last fall is finally over.

Water service on Boston Street ( #240 to #264), High Street ( #35 to #100), Dover Hill Road, and Summer Street ( #32 to #40) will be turned off at 10 PM on Thursday, May 29th for 4 to 8 hours while a new 12” diameter connection is installed on Route 1 near the Public Works Building as part of the Boston Street Water Storage Tank Replacement Project. This should be the only service interruption needed for the project.
