Ararat Middle School with it’s newly painted hallways and brightly colored floor tiles, opened it’s classrooms to students in January 2001. Throughout the construction phase of the school students were actively engaged in many decisions about the new school. Students chose the name, Orion Performing Arts Center for the 900 seat, state of the art theater based on several facts. The school is constructed on the site of an old navy base from which P-3 Orion planes flew multiple missions. The constellation Orion, the hunter, is one of the few constellations visible around the world. In our evening sky it can be viewed from October to early January and in the morning sky from late July to November.
