🚲⚡ E-BIKE SAFETY FOR KIDS ⚡🚲
Keep Our Community Safe!

E-bikes are becoming more popular around town—and while they’re fun and convenient, they can also be dangerous if not used safely, especially for young riders.

🛑 SAFETY TIPS FOR KIDS & FAMILIES 🛑

👦👧 Wear a Helmet Every Ride
Protect your head—it can save your life.

🚦 Follow All Traffic Rules
Stop signs, traffic lights, and right-of-way rules apply to e-bikes.

đź‘€ Stay Alert
No headphones or distractions—keep your eyes and ears on the road.

🌙 Be Seen
Use lights and wear bright or reflective clothing, especially at night.

🛑 Ride at Safe Speeds
E-bikes are faster—young riders should go slow and stay in safe areas.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 PARENTS:

Take a few minutes to talk with your kids about safe riding habits.
Your guidance makes a difference!

🚨 Public Safety Warning 🚨

We are responding to multiple incidents of children going out onto the ice on the river. This is extremely dangerous.

Ice conditions are unsafe and unpredictable. What looks solid can give way without warning, and cold water rescues put both the victim and responders at serious risk.

Parents and guardians:
Please talk with your children now about staying off the ice. Do not allow them to play, walk, or skate on the river.

If you see anyone on the ice:

Keep a safe distance

Call 911 immediately

Do not attempt a rescue yourself

We appreciate the community’s help in keeping everyone safe. Please share this message so it reaches as many families as possible.

I want to clarify a few things.

The City Street Department has not stopped plowing streets to help dig people out. Street crews have been working nonstop throughout the storm to keep roads open.

The Mayor worked closely with the Fire Department to create a plan to help as many essential workers and elderly residents as possible, while also supporting our street crews—who are often among the first to help us during emergencies.

The Fire Department has been working continuously since the storm began. Our first priority was making sure fire hydrants were cleared and accessible. Once that was completed, crews used our side-by-side with a plow over the past few days to help residents who were stuck or unable to get out.

These efforts were not for friends or family. Firefighters and volunteers helped anyone we saw struggling. Our families handled clearing our own homes so our members could stay focused on serving the community.

Most importantly, this assistance did not cost taxpayers anything.

We’re proud of the teamwork between city departments and grateful for the continued support of our community.

We are asking for the community’s help during this winter weather. Multiple Toronto Fire Department crews are out working to make sure fire hydrants remain clear and accessible. Unfortunately, we have already found several hydrants that have been pushed in by snow and are difficult to see.

If you are able, please help by clearing snow away from the hydrants near your home or business. If you are unable to do so, please give us a call and we will send someone out to take care of it.

Your help can make a critical difference in an emergency. Help us help you.

We would also like to extend a huge thank you to all of our crews and to a young man from Toronto High School Michael Henry and Chase Heckathorn who gave up their day to volunteer their time and assist us. Your support and dedication do not go unnoticed. 💙🔥
