Ever wanted to explore the Marsh in the dark? You can! Once a month, we hold a guided Night Hike in the Preserve. The next one will be on Saturday, June 13th at 7:30 pm. Register and pay ($5/person) using Rec.Us. Go to the link or QR code in the image, search "Night Hike," and sign yourself up!

Night Hikes are held every 2nd Saturday of the month. The time changes throughout the year to match the sunset. Everyone ages 6 and up must be individually registered for the program to ensure we keep the groups small and intimate while we explore the Marsh at night.

Why so Blue?

Meet Leptotes marina, the Marine Blue butterfly!

Marine Blues are one of the smallest varieties of butterflies that call Madrona Marsh home, with a wingspan of 22 to 29 millimeters they only grow up to be slightly larger than a quarter! Commonly seen darting around low growing flowers such as poppies, milkvetch and other legumes this species of butterfly isn’t too picky, hosting on a wide variety of flora.
Keep an eye out for these bantam beauties between April and September if you want to see one for yourself at Madrona Marsh!

A big thank you to everyone who came out for last weekend's Nature Festival! (scroll to see the winning entry in our Name the King Snake contest)....

Thank you to all the Madrona Marsh volunteers and staff who helped make the event such a great success. We had many amazing art and science activities, some fun guided walks through the Preserve, several live musical performances (thanks to Kevin Schatz, Xalli, and the Beermuda Triangle!), and meet and greets with turtles, tortoises, insects, and chickens! Always a great time with our friends from the Audubon, California Native Plant Society, Turtle and Tortoise Society, Sierra Club, International Bird Rescue, Marine Mammal Care Center, Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, and Torrance Public Works.

Last but not least, we're pleased to announce the winner of our Name the King Snake contest: Pepper! Congratulations to 6-year-old Amber for creating the winning name and sticker design. You'll see her stickers available at future Marsh outreach events. Great job, Amber.
