Case closed through teamwork.
Yesterday, on June 18th at approximately 5:40 a.m., Torrance Police officers responded to reports of a suspicious person dressed in all black checking vehicle door handles near Halison St. and Hawthorne Blvd. Upon arrival, officers located the suspect, who immediately fled on foot. Patrol officers quickly established a perimeter with drone support from our Real Time Response Center (RTRC). Although it was later determined the suspect had already left the containment area, officers continued their investigation.
As officers canvassed the neighborhood, they discovered several victims of theft from automobiles, including one victim whose firearm had been stolen from a lockbox inside their vehicle.
TPD officers conducted a K9 search of the area, and our bloodhound K9 Tango successfully tracked the suspect’s scent to a nearby residence. During the investigation, officers located multiple surveillance camera recordings that captured the suspect’s actions and further confirmed K9 Tango’s track. Detectives worked closely with patrol, expounding on the initial investigation, to identify the suspect and obtain a warrant.
Later in the evening, TPD SWAT also with SWAT safely served a search warrant at the suspect’s residence. The suspect was taken into custody, and detectives recovered the stolen firearm along with additional stolen property during their search.
This case highlights the exceptional teamwork that exists throughout the Torrance Police Department. Patrol officers, our Real Time Response Center, K9 Tango, Detectives, SWAT/CNT, and personnel from across the department worked seamlessly together to identify the suspect, recover stolen property, and bring the case to a successful conclusion.
Great work by everyone involved in helping keep our community safe. 👏🚔🐕🦺
