Wayne County Fire District Training Notice

Today, members of the Wayne County Fire District will be conducting Initial Attack firefighting training at the Community Center from approximately 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

During this training, you may notice emergency vehicles in the area and see smoke coming from the training prop. Please do not be alarmed this is a planned training exercise designed to provide our firefighters with realistic, hands-on experience in a controlled environment.

Initial attack is one of the most critical phases of any fire emergency. By regularly training in realistic scenarios, our volunteer firefighters strengthen the skills needed to make quick decisions, work safely as a team, and provide the best possible service to our community when real emergencies occur. Training like this helps ensure our members are prepared to protect lives, property, and the communities we proudly serve.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while this training is taking place. Your continued support allows our volunteers to improve their skills and remain ready to answer the call whenever help is needed.

The members of Wayne County Fire District extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and our brothers and sisters of the Provo Fire Department following the unimaginable loss of a firefighter and members of his family in the tragic flooding at Sunglow Campground.

There are no words that can truly ease the pain of such a heartbreaking loss. As firefighters, we understand the bonds of family, both at home and within the fire service. When one department grieves, we all grieve. Today, we stand with the Provo Fire Department, keeping everyone affected by this tragedy in our thoughts and prayers.

From all of us at Wayne County Fire District, may the memories of those lost bring comfort in the days ahead, and may their loved ones find strength in the support of their community and the fire service family.

Please join us in keeping the Provo Fire Department and all those impacted by this tragedy in your thoughts and prayers.

đźš’ Welcome Home, Tim and Wyatt! đźš’

Wayne County Fire District would like to extend a huge welcome home to Tim and Wyatt after their two-week deployment in support of the Wild Goose Fire.

During their assignment, they played a critical role in supporting firefighting operations by keeping engines and equipment supplied with water, shuttling water to remote dip sites, providing dust abatement on fire roads, and assisting with mop-up operations to help ensure the fire remained secure. Their hard work and dedication made a meaningful contribution to the firefighting effort.

We are incredibly proud of their willingness to answer the call and represent Wayne County Fire District with professionalism and commitment. Their service not only helped protect communities and natural resources but also reflects the dedication of all of our volunteers who stand ready to serve whenever needed.

Thank you, Tim and Wyatt, for your time, sacrifice, and outstanding dedication. We're glad to have you both home safe! 👏🚒🇺🇸

đźš’ **WCFD Tender Deployed for Initial Attack Support** đźš’

Wayne County Fire District answered the call to assist with tender support for new wildfire starts in central Utah. We want to wish **Tim and Wyatt** a safe deployment and a speedy return home. Thank you both for representing WCFD and serving our neighboring communities.

While one of our water tenders has been deployed, Wayne County Fire District still has two 4,000-gallon water tenders staffed and available to respond to emergencies throughout Wayne County. Our district remains fully committed to protecting our communities while also providing mutual aid when our neighboring agencies need assistance.

As fire activity continues to increase across Utah, conditions remain extremely dry and dangerous. It only takes one spark to start a wildfire that can threaten lives, homes, livestock, and the incredible public lands that make our county so special.

We ask everyone to remain vigilant and strictly follow the fire restrictions currently in place. Avoid activities that could cause sparks, ensure trailer chains are properly secured, and report any signs of smoke or fire immediately.

Every one of us has a role to play in preventing wildfires. Together, we can help protect our communities, our firefighters, and the landscapes we all enjoy.

Please join us in wishing Tim and Wyatt a safe mission and a speedy return home. We'll be looking forward to welcoming them back safely.

Per Wayne County Fire District Chief, Steve Lutz:

On May 18, 2026, The Wayne County Commission voted to implement Stage 2 fire restrictions.

As of May 19th, open fires of any kind are prohibited in addition to the following activities:

• Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire or campfire including charcoal grills, pellet grills, or ash producing fuels.

• Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle, trailer, or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area that is paved or free from any vegetation.

• Discharging or using any fireworks, tracer ammunition, or other pyrotechnic devices, including exploding targets.

• Cutting, welding, or grinding metal in areas of dry vegetation.

• Operating a motorcycle, chainsaw, ATV, or other small internal combustion engine without an approved and working spark arrestor.

• The only open fires allowed within Wayne County, at this time, are propane stoves (or firepits) that can be turned off at a valve or switch.

The restricted area includes all mountains, canyons, parks, and campgrounds throughout Wayne County. The County Fire Warden may grant exceptions for burns that directly affect someone’s ability to make a living.

A fire allowed under an exception will require increased resources to contain the fire. This likely will include having a fire crew standing by, at the permittee’s expense.

Violations of this Fire Restriction Order are a Class C Misdemeanor in violation of UTAH CODE SECTION 64A-8-211.
