We're so sorry to hear of the passing of Torrington Police Officer Robert Simon. He was always such a joyful presence at our annual Picnic in the Park down at Coe Park. We send our deepest condolences to Officer Simon's family and friends.

It is with profound sadness that the Torrington Police Department announces the passing of retired Officer Robert “Robbie” Simon following a courageous battle with cancer.

Robbie joined the Torrington Police Department in September 2007 and faithfully served our community for 17 years before retiring in the fall of 2024. Throughout his career, he served in several important roles, including patrol officer, Community Policing Officer, Police Activities League Officer, and member of the Department’s Special Emergency Response Team.

Robbie was a valued and deeply respected member of our department. He was loved not only by his fellow officers, but also by the many members of the community whose lives he touched. His infectious laugh, warm smile, and unmistakable sense of humor will be greatly missed.

We extend our deepest condolences to Robbie’s family, friends, former colleagues, and all who knew and loved him during this incredibly difficult time.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been finalized. Additional information will be shared when it becomes available.

Rest in peace, Robbie. Your service, friendship, and memory will never be forgotten.

We are incredibly grateful to Gengras Subaru Torrington and Subaru of America, Inc. for selecting the Litchfield Hills Northwest Elderly Nutrition Program as one of this year’s Hometown Charities through the Subaru Share the Love Event!

Thanks to this amazing partnership — and to every person who chose Subaru during the campaign — our program received a donation of $14,642 to help support local seniors throughout the Northwest Corner.

These funds help us continue delivering nutritious meals, friendly check-ins, and vital support to our neighbors across 18 towns in Litchfield County. Last year alone, we delivered more than 154,000 home delivered meals to local seniors — and support like this helps keep our kitchens running and our drivers on the road.

A heartfelt thank you to Chip and Jonathan Gengras, Andy and Jeff, the entire Gengras Subaru team, and Subaru of America for your generosity and continued commitment to our community. We are so honored to partner with organizations that care so deeply about the people we serve.

🚧 Heads up for next week! 🚧

Roadwork is scheduled on Park Avenue in front of the Senior Center on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and it may temporarily block access to our back parking lot.

If you’re planning to visit on those days, please plan to park in the front lot instead.

We appreciate your patience while this work is being completed—and we’ll keep you updated if anything changes!
