THANK YOU
Local 1567's members would like to thank all the members of the public who showed up and spoke last night in favor of the fire department budget as well as the Board of Public Safety members who listened to what the public asked for and voted that way. While this is just a small step in the right direction of giving aid to a department that has consistently operated on a shoe string budget with minimal staffing for years, your efforts and words of encouragement are much appreciated.

Local 1567's members would love to have your continued support at the City Council meeting on May 18th to continue pushing this budget forward so that your firefighters may continue to provide the highest level of life safety and property protection to the you, the citizens of Torrington, your loved ones and those who visit our city.

TORRINGTON TAXPAYERS: Do you realize how little of your property taxes fund fire protection? The taxes on the median home in the city are $7347 annually. Last year, only $331 of that would be budgeted for fire services.

The Board of Public Safety Subcommittee has recommended a budget which CUTS fire services to you and your loved ones. This is nothing short of insanity.

The Fire Chief's proposed budget, which begins to address the lengthy response times citywide, increases that figure to only $389. For 58 dollars a year, the Torrington Fire Department can have a budget that would drastically improve your safety!

Come show your support this Wednesday at 6:30pm in the City Hall Auditorium!

MULTIPLE FIRE INCIDENTS

Local 1567's members assigned to Group 1 kept up the busy streak on Tuesday, April 21st responding to numerous incidents including a car fire on Litchfield Street and a structure fire on Albert Street.

At approximately 4:55 am, Engines 1 and 2, Truck 1 and District 1 were dispatched to Albert Street for a structure fire. Upon arrival companies found a porch fire that was being held in check by a passerby with a garden hose. The first arriving company extinguished the fire, overhaul was performed to confirm that the fire hadn't extended anywhere and the building ventilated and metered to assure occupant safety. Local 1567's members assigned to the Fire Marshal's Office were called to the scene to investigate. Local 1567's members would like to thank and praise the citizen who stopped and held the fire in check, saving the house and occupants inside. Strong work!
