Drakeville Volunteer Fire Department

At approximately 4:30 am yesterday morning, Drakeville Fire was dispatched mutual aid to Wi******er Rd in Norfolk for the reported barn fire with a threatened residential structure approximately 30 feet from the barn.

Tanker 38 and Engine 35 quickly responded. Upon arrival, Tanker 38 deployed its portable pond and began shuttling water to the non-hydrated area. Crews on Engine 35 assisted with fire suprression until approximately 9 a.m.

Thankfully, no injuries to people or animals were reported and there was no impact to the residence.

Ironically, the day before, members trained with the Barkhamsted East Fire Department and Pleasant Valley Fire Department on rural water supply/tanker shuttles. Our department was prepared for this fire thanks in part to the frequent training opportunities we participate in with our neighbors.

Major Storm Response

Just after 7 pm last night, Drakeville Fire began to be dispatched to the abundance of weather related calls alongside our brothers and sisters at Local 1567 IAFF Torrington Fire Fighters.

As of now, Drakeville Fire alone has responded to over 20 calls for service ranging from alarms, to trees on homes, wires down, etc. and the cleanup is still ongoing. Members were cleared at 2 am this morning and have already returned to the firehouse twice since then.

We’re extremely grateful for our firefighters who answered the call, especially on a holiday.

Please continue to be safe out there and avoid trees and wires down. This cleanup effort will be significant and take place over the next few days.

It’s been a busy day in the City!

Engine 35 was manned with 5 interior firefighters throughout the day today, responding to multiple incidents and providing city coverage.

It you don’t have to be outside today, do your first responders a favor and just enjoy the air conditioning! 😎☀️
