Today we gathered as a community to honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Memorial Day is a time to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice so we could live freely and safely.

Thank you to our Scouts, veterans organizations, volunteers, and everyone who helps keep these traditions alive each year and teaches future generations the importance of service and respect.

On behalf of the City of Torrington, thank you to all who served, and especially to those who gave everything for our nation. We will never forget their sacrifice.

This week for National Public Works Week, we stopped by the Street Department, WPCA, and our City Hall Public Works/Engineering Department to thank the people who work hard every day to keep Torrington running.

After this winter, I learned firsthand just how hard these jobs really are and how much our crews do behind the scenes to keep our city moving during long hours and difficult conditions.

Their work may not always be seen, but it makes a difference across our city every single day.

Thank you to Tina at Cafe 38 for the delicious treats we brought to our Public Works team. We appreciate the support and all of the hard work our crews put in year round.

Earlier this week, myself and members from departments across the city had the pleasure of attending the Sullivan Senior Center’s Volunteer Celebration. It was an opportunity to recognize many incredible people throughout our community who have dedicated countless hours volunteering and supporting our Senior Center.

Thank you to all of the volunteers who help make the Senior Center such a special place for so many in our community. Your time and dedication are greatly appreciated!

This morning, I presented a proclamation to Chief Baldwin recognizing National Police Memorial Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day.

National Police Week was established in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which it falls as National Police Memorial Week. It serves as a time to honor the courageous law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, while also recognizing the men and women who continue to serve and protect our communities each day.

The City of Torrington is grateful for the dedication, professionalism, and sacrifice of our law enforcement officers. This week, we pause to remember those who lost their lives in service and to thank all who wear the badge for their unwavering commitment to protecting the lives, rights, and property of our residents.
