At 8:32 AM, Sunday, 35 years ago today Mount St. Helens Erupted in a blast depositing 3.2 billion tons of ash around the globe in such a dramatic fashion that millions recall exactly where they were that morning. DO YOU ? YES - Its been thirty five years - Wow most of us are over 40 that remember......anyone have a bottle of ash still? You ?

Mount St. Helens Climbing Permits went on sale this morning. Weekends will sell out quickly - its only $22 so if you are even thinking about climbing this summer get yours now. http://mshinstitute.org/index.php/climbing/obtain_a_permit

If you are climbing between November 1st, 2014 - March 31, 2015, you must self-register at the trailhead. There is no fee for permits during this period.

DO YOU ? Nylon Stockings on Car Air filters, thousands of rolls of eruption photo film coming in daily to process at the local Kodak plant while they struggled with the ash in the equipment, day turned into night in Montana... crazy wild memories. You ?

The Visitor Season starts today with Johnston Ridge and The Forest Learning Center now open Daily 10-6 ! Over 1000 climbers are attempting to summit the Volcano today this last weekend without climbing permit limits. This May 10th photo from the Learning Center was taken under sunnier skies last year.

Sun, Snow, & Steam this beautiful Sunday Fall afternoon at Mount St. Helens. The highway remains open to the volcano while Johnston Ridge remains closed though the Forest Learning Center facilities are open 7 days a week except exhibits. What a view as seen from Johnston Ridge today at 1pm. Thanks for sharing !
