Towanda Police Department – K‑9 Unit Community Event Update

Today, Monday 8/10 at 11am, the Towanda Police K‑9 Unit attended the YMCA’s End‑of‑Summer Celebration and 175th Birthday Picnic/Touch‑A‑Truck event.

K‑9 Hades and K‑9 Haze were a huge hit with the campers, who were excited to meet both dogs up close and learn about their roles in keeping our community safe.

Chief Lantz also joined the event with a patrol vehicle, giving campers the chance to explore the K‑9 car and a regular patrol car, ask questions, and even activate the lights and sirens—creating plenty of noise and even more smiles.

The kids were engaged, curious, and full of great questions.

A fun time was had by all, and we appreciate the YMCA for inviting us to be part of their celebration.

Criminal Mischief Investigation – Request for Information

The Towanda Borough Police Department is investigating a criminal mischief incident involving damage to a residential swimming pool in the Second Ward.

The pool sustained eight small BB‑sized puncture holes on the north end.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Towanda Police Station directly at (570)265-2522.

Last night, the Towanda Police Department hosted our first National Night Out event on Park Street from 6–8 PM.

The evening was a great success, with community members getting the chance to meet K‑9 Hades and K‑9 Haze, interact with them, and see the K‑9 vehicle up close.

Attendees also explored several police vehicles on display, and some even received guided tours of the Towanda Police Station.

We appreciate everyone who came out and made the night special. It was a fun, positive community event, and we look forward to hosting it again next year.

National Night Out is this Tuesday, August 4th from 6 PM to 8 PM on Park Street in front of the Towanda Police Station.

National Night Out’s mission is simple: to bring our community together, strengthen neighborhood relationships, and build positive connections between residents and local law enforcement.

It’s a great chance to get outside, meet your neighbors, and enjoy a safe, family‑friendly evening.

Towanda Borough Police Community Engagement Update:

Today, K9 Hades and Officer Hennessy along with our new police dog, K9 Haze—attended the Touch‑A‑Truck event at the Bradford County Airport.

Attendees had the chance to see the K-9 police vehicle, meet both dogs, and interact with K9 Hades and K9 Haze.

Officer Hennessy’s wife was also on‑site handing out police badge stickers to the children and families in attendance.

K9 Hades turned 9 years old in July and is approaching retirement, possibly by the end of the year. He will continue working until that time.

K9 Haze, a two‑year‑old yellow Labrador, is currently putting in the training hours required to become a certified police dog in Pennsylvania.

Upon retirement, K9 Hades will continue living with Officer Hennessy and his family. Even at 9 years old, Hades remains active, hardworking, and hasn’t slowed down. Officer Hennessy has been training both dogs together to ensure they meet their required training hours, and training has been going very well for K9 Haze.

The Towanda Borough Police Department is proud to host National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4th, from 6 PM to 8 PM on Park Street.

This nationwide event is designed to strengthen relationships, promote crime prevention, and build a true sense of neighborhood unity.

Park Street will be blocked off from Main Street to Merrill Parkway to create a safe, family‑friendly block‑party atmosphere.

Come meet your Towanda Police Officers, check out the new patrol vehicles—including the K‑9 unit—and spend time getting to know the people who serve our community.

Attendees can ask questions, meet the K‑9, and enjoy a relaxed evening focused on connection and community.

Vendors and food trucks are welcome. If you plan to attend as a vendor or food truck, please email Officer Hennessy at [email protected].

Towanda Borough Police Department – Community Engagement Update

This morning at Riverfront Park, the Towanda Borough Police Department K‑9 Unit participated in the Northern Tier Counseling School‑Based Family Picnic.

The program supports students across all Bradford County schools.

Children rotated through several public‑safety stations, including an ambulance, fire truck, Sheriff’s Department vehicle, and our K‑9 unit.

At our station, Officer Hennessy discussed his police uniform, daily duties as a police officer, the specialized K‑9 patrol vehicle, and K‑9 Hades’ training and responsibilities.

The students were engaged, asked great questions, and enjoyed meeting Hades.

Thank you to Northern Tier Counseling for inviting us and for their continued support of youth across Bradford County.
