RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 8 PM CDT THIS EVENING FOR WIND AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR SOUTHEASTERN NORTH DAKOTA

* AFFECTED AREA...In North Dakota, Eddy, Griggs, Steele, Traill,
Barnes, Cass, Ransom, Sargent and Richland.

* WINDS...Northwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.

* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 20 percent.

* IMPACTS...Any fires that ignite will spread rapidly and become
difficult to control. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

The chart made by Southern Valley Fire is for Cass County as we have a declaration in place. The other Fire Danger Guidelines chart is for any county with no burn restrictions in place.

The North Dakota Adjective Fire Danger is very high today in Cass County. With conditions for today, a fire can spread quickly, so if you see smoke or a fire call 911 right away and get emergency crews rolling right away!

THE PENALTY FOR VIOLATION OF THIS BURN RESTRICTION IS A CLASS B MISDEMEANOR (NDCC 37.17.1-10.1: MAXIMUM SENTENCE OF 30 DAYS IN JAIL AND $1,500.00 FINE).

The Cass County Board of Commissioners has declared a fire emergency and enacted burn restrictions through November 30, 2026, due to abundant dry vegetation and ongoing hot, dry, and windy weather conditions.

🔥The restrictions will be in effect whenever the North Dakota Rangeland Fire Danger Rating for Cass County is classified as High, Very High, or Extreme, and/or when a Red Flag Warning is issued by the National Weather Service.

🔥What's Included: No Open Burning: Includes campfires, controlled burns (i.e., wood piles, tumbleweeds, tree piles, etc.), cropland/agricultural burning, fireworks (aerial and ground), garbage/pit burning

🔥What's Excluded: Controlled Devices: Only when device (gas grills, gas patio fireplaces and chimineas, gas camp stoves, gas, charcoal, or wood-fired grills, patio fireplaces and chimineas, gas camp stoves, and smokers) is on a hard, non-organic surface and 15 feet away from vegetation and an extinguisher or water is available on site.

👩‍⚖️Violations of the burn restriction are classified as a Class B misdemeanor under North Dakota Century Code 37-17.1-10.1 and may result in up to 30 days in jail and a fine of up to $1,500.

🔥👨🏻‍🚒Residents need to check the daily Fire Danger Rating before conducting any burning. The rating is available at:

We had the honor of leading home the Maple Valley Raiders Robotics teams that won the state competition today! We are very proud of these teams and all there hard work! Also thank you to the Buffalo QRU and Buffalo Fire Department for helping us bring them home!
If anyone has pictures or other video please send them to us!

Our Maple Valley Public School robotics team won the state competition! We are having a few trucks lead them back to town from Buffalo. They will be in Tower City about 6pm.
Please come out and support this awesome team!
