Established in 1795, the Town encompasses the hamlets of Poolville, Hubbardsville, and East Hamilton, and the villages of Hamilton and Earlville.

Town Hall will be closed Wednesday 9/2/26 for mandatory training. The office will re-open at 9am on Thursday 9/3/26.

Town of Hamilton Community Clean Up Day (9/26/26)
The Town of Hamilton will be hosting a Community Clean Up Day on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Town Highway Garage on Cranston Road (next to the Hamilton Transfer Station). Open to Town of Hamilton Residents Only, No Businesses.

Most items are free, but there is a charge for the following (Cash or Check. No punch cards.):
• Propane Tanks = $5.00 each
• Air conditioners, Refrigerators, Freezers and Dehumidifiers = $20.00 each

Tires (Passenger Vehicle Only, No oversized truck tires, No tractor tires) will be accepted for Free, limit 4 per household.

Following items will be accepted at Clean Up Days at no charge:
• Televisions and Computer Monitors
• Auto Batteries

Following items will not be accepted at Clean Up Days (see Madison County Solid Waste website for more information at www.madisoncounty.ny.gov):
• Electronics
• Oil/Chemicals/Household Hazardous Waste
• Asbestos Containing Materials/Sharps/Medical Waste/Hot Ashes/Ammunition/Explosives

Following items will not be accepted at Clean Up Days, but may be dropped off at no charge to Hamilton Transfer Station:
• Batteries (Household Only)
• Trees/Brush/Yard Waste

• Out of County pet owners are limited to four (4) pets per household

• A vehicle is not required to participate.

In Madison County, mosquitoes can carry diseases such as Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE), West Nile, and Jamestown Canyon viruses. These diseases are rare, but they can make you very sick and may be life-threatening.

Apply insect repellent before going outdoors, especially at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active. Take extra care near swamps, ponds, and other areas with standing water.

The Hamilton Town Clerk's Office acts as the issuing agent of licenses for dogs in the town. All dogs require a license at the age of four (4) months. Dog licenses need to be renewed annually.
New: Voluntary Shelter Donation: Pursuant to NYS Senate Bill S1373, this
dog license application includes an option for dog owners to make a voluntary
donation to support Wanderers’ Rest Humane Association (WRHA), which is the
contracted animal shelter for Madison County. 100% of your donation will be
remitted to WRHA from the Town of Hamilton. This donation is not required to
license your dog. Thank you for your consideration to help homeless animals.

To license your dog(s), you will need:

Proof of Rabies Vaccination. (This is the Rabies Certificate, not the tag.)
Proof of Spay/Neuter if the animal has been altered. Either a certification from a licensed veterinarian or a certificate from an animal shelter.
A completed Application for a Dog License. Dog License Application Form
Licensing fees are:

$7 for a spayed or neutered dog (proof of spay/neuter is required)
$15 for an unsprayed or unneutered dog.
The Process to License:

Gather your documents and payment and bring them to the Town Office during regular business hours. If you don't have the option to make copies of your rabies certificate or spay/neuter certificate, we will gladly do that for you.
We will provide you with a Dog License Tag that needs to be on your dog at all times. This will not be replaced each year.
Every year, we will send you a renewal reminder in the mail.
