Sept 8th at 6PM- Parks & Rec Advisory Board
Sept 10th at 6PM- Planning Commission
Sept 15th at 7PM- Board of Commissioners

We are excited to welcome back two returning commissioners and our newest member! There will be a swearing in ceremony for them at the September 15th Board of Commissioner's meeting.

Come show your support! All meetings are held at City Hall and are open to the public. Meeting agendas will be available on our website at lease three days in advance: www.cityoftownsend.com

We are thrilled to share an important update regarding our community’s water security and resilience. Read the full message from Don Prater below:

“On behalf of the citizens of Townsend and our Tuckaleechee Cove neighbors, I’d like to express our sincere appreciation to Mayor Ed Mitchell and Blount County together with Commissioner Lamar Dunn and Tuckaleechee Utility District and Commissioners Kenny Myers and Michael Talley for their enduring support to bring a second water line to Townsend. This project provides resiliency and will ensure a steady, stable water supply for years to come. We appreciate the wisdom and forethought that went into obtaining resources, addressing unique engineering challenges and developing the partnerships needed to make this possible for our residents.”

🦋💗 The City of Townsend joins in mourning our neighbor born and raised just over the mountain in Sevier County.

Whether she was writing classics like "Jolene" and "I Will Always Love You," starring on the big screen, or giving millions of books to children through her Imagination Library, she lived her life with generosity, humility, and infectious joy.

Rest in peace, Dolly. Thank you for the music, the love, and the mountain spirit. You will always be loved. 💗🦋

Empowering local children one grant at a time!

The Foothills Kiwanis Club is offering grants from $500 to $1,000 to local organizations in Townsend, Walland, and Wears Valley that support youth education, health, and welfare. More information in post.

It is so cool seeing these agencies dedicate their time to sharpening their skills, locking down that air-to-ground teamwork, and keeping our community safe. Watching that Blackhawk in action is seriously impressive—a great reminder of just how ready and capable our emergency crews are!

BTW- if anyone happens to see a red pair of glasses going by at Mach 2- please tell them our City Recorder says she misses them- that Blackhawk wind really said "I'll be taking those today!"

🚨🚒🚁Emergency Response Training Exercise-August 19th 🚨🚒🚁

Please be advised that there will be a simulated emergency response exercise in Townsend tomorrow, August 19th. This will be a multi-agency exercise, so expect to see a high volume of activity, including helicopter activity, near Peaceful Side Social on East Lamar Alexander Parkway.

The exercise will begin at 9AM and continue throughout the day.

This is only a drill. There is no actual emergency or public threat.

🚨Retirement Reception 🚨

We will be hosting a reception tomorrow, August 18th, from 6PM-7PM at City Hall for Sgt. Tony Rayburn. If you've lived here for any amount of time, chances are you have seen his friendly smile and know what a steadfast presence he was in town. Townsend won't quite be the same without him on duty!

Stop by to share a memory, grab a refreshment, and give Sgt. Rayburn the warm send-off he deserves. Hope to see you there! 💙💙💙

‼ Bike Trail Closure near Tremont Lodge & Resort ‼

The bike trail is currently closed in front of Tremont Lodge & Resort from Tiger Dr. to Chestnut Hill due to a fallen tree. Our maintenance crew is on site working to clear the area.

Please avoid this area of the bike trail for now and we will update this post once the trail is fully reopened. Thank you for your patience!
