We have come to our FINAL posting about the intensive programs!! Take a look at "Costumes & Curses".....

🕵️‍♀️🔍 HISTORY + MYSTERY = ONE UNFORGETTABLE WEEK! 🎭✨

This March, students stepped into a world of secrets, suspense, and storytelling during our immersive Mystery Intensive! From the hidden dangers of Pharaohs’ tombs to the glamour and crime of the Roaring 1920s, students explored how mysteries captivated people across history.

Throughout the week, students:
📚 Analyzed classic mystery elements
🧩 Solved puzzles and decoded clues
🏺 Investigated King Tut’s 1922 tomb discovery
🎷 Explored Prohibition, jazz culture, and organized crime
🎬 Created original historical mystery stories and film skits
🎭 Designed costumes, sets, and immersive scenes

Highlights included:
🔐 A “Curse of the Pharaoh’s Tomb” escape room challenge
🚪 A field trip escape room experience
🍸 Transforming the classroom into a Gatsby-era speakeasy
🎉 A final community Dinner Mystery Event featuring TWO intersecting mysteries:
• The Curse of the Pharaoh’s Tomb with Gatsby Flair

This interdisciplinary experience blended:

✨ Art & Design
✨ Media Production
✨ Collaboration & Performance

It was an unforgettable week of creativity, critical thinking, and immersive learning!

"Junior Antero BrownMcCoard will be doing a presentation of his semester-long PBL tonight, June 3rd at the Townshend Library at 6 pm. Entitled "The Fight to Save Wild Brook Trout", Antero's presentation will focus on the history of wild brook trout in Vermont, report on conservation efforts to protect wild brook trout within the state and offer his predictions about the future of wild brook trout in the Green Mountain State."

Students who traveled to New Orleans worked at Common Ground Relief to help restore vital wetlands of Southeast Louisiana to protect coastlines and combat climate change. Students and staff potted 500 cypress trees that will eventually be planted in the bayou, and weeded an area for a future composed pile. It was hot, dirty work, but everyone felt their hard work was important to help rebuild the wetlands.

NOLA travelers split their nights in a hostel not far from the French Quarter and in cabins on the water in Bayou Segnette State Park. They experienced Haitian/Creole cuisine, a swamp boat ride, New Orleans Pelicans basketball game, WWII museum, the Audubon Aquarium, Jackson Square, Po’boys, Beignets from Cafe Du Monde, befriended, from afar, an alligator (our “swamp puppy”) at the cabins, rode across the longest continuous bridge over water in the world spanning Lake Pontchartrain, swam at Waveland Beach in Mississippi and so much more. Several students flew for the first time.

Game of Logging is a Leland and Gray Intensive where students work directly with Northeast Woodland Training and over the course of the week completed "Technical School Chainsaw Safety Training." Students worked with experts and learned how to properly use safety equipment and how to properly and safely use a chainsaw. They learned different cuts necessary to safely cut down a tree. They fell trees, cut cookies, and cleaned up the space. Upon completion, students received a certificate of completion in Level 1 Chainsaw Safety. It was powerful to witness!

Adventures in Belize
Thirteen students traveled to Belize to learn about Belizean culture and tropical ecosystems. They spent three nights in the rainforest and hiked to a waterfall, ziplined through the rainforest canopy, tubed through a cave system, and explored Mayan ruins. Then they boarded a boat to Glover's Reef, an atoll 40 miles off the mainland coast. While tenting on the Southwest Caye, they learned how to sea kayak, snorkel, paddleboard, harvest coconuts, and fish, and spent a lot of time exploring coral reefs and tidal environments. It was unBelizeable!
