Watershed Wednesday💧
Fertilizer helps plants grow, but when too much washes off lawns and gardens, it can end up in our streams and rivers.
Rain can carry excess nutrients, such as nitrogen and phosphorus, into local waterways, where they fuel algal growth. These algae blooms can reduce oxygen in the water, harming fish, crabs, and other aquatic life.
A few simple steps can help protect our waterways:
🌱 Use fertilizer only when needed
🔍 Follow label instructions carefully
🌧️ Avoid applying before heavy rain
🧹 Sweep fertilizer off sidewalks and driveways back onto the lawn
