This holiday weekend, our officers focused on one simple goal: saving lives through seat belt safety.

During the Holiday Enforcement Period, CHP officers issued 2,172 seat belt citations to drivers and passengers who chose not to buckle up. While citations are never the goal, every stop was an opportunity to prevent a tragedy.

Seat belts remain one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect yourself and your loved ones on the road. No matter how short the trip is, buckle up every time.

Thank you to everyone who made safety a priority this holiday weekend. Let’s continue working together to keep California roads safe.

Its Memorial Day Weekend. Let's Honor those who served and died protecting our great Country by driving responsibly and being safe. Their sacrifice is your gift of freedom.

The California Highway Patrol will launch a statewide Memorial Day weekend enforcement campaign focused on seat belt use, reckless driving and impaired driving as heavy holiday travel begins across California.

The CHP's Holiday Enforcement Period will run from 6 p.m. Friday through 11:59 p.m. Monday, with officers conducting targeted patrols on highways and local roads statewide.

One decision can change everything.

A seat belt may seem small, but in a crash, it can mean the difference between life and death. Too many lives are lost every year because someone chose not to buckle up.

Buckle up. Every seat. Every trip. Every time.

It's a dog, It's a cat, It's a Turtle? (check it out)

What should you do it you are driving and observe an object in the road?

In accordance with the California Vehicle Code, it is essential to maintain a safe speed and distance to allow sufficient time to perceive and respond to potential hazards, such as objects in the road. To enhance safety, keep your eyes focused further down the roadway and remain attentive to your surroundings. If you encounter an object and are unable to avoid it safely, prioritize maintaining control of your vehicle, as sudden evasive maneuvers can result in more severe incidents. Consistently practicing defensive driving by scanning ahead and adjusting your speed appropriately can help prevent dangerous situations.

Put the phones down 📱 ,
focus on the road ahead 👀 ,
buckle up ,
drive at a safe speed 🛣️
drive safe
= Good chance of getting to your destination safely 🏆 .

A seat belt can be the difference between walking away from a crash or never making it home.

From May 18–31, the California Highway Patrol will participate in the national Click It or Ticket campaign with increased seat belt enforcement. Officers will be stopping drivers and passengers who are not properly buckled up.

Too many lives are lost each year because someone chose not to wear a seat belt. In a crash, being ejected from a vehicle is often deadly, and airbags alone are not enough to protect you.

Buckle up correctly every trip:
✔️ Shoulder belt across your chest
✔️ Lap belt low across your hips
❌ Never behind your back or under your arm
