WEEKLY UPDATE

As I begin winding down my time as Town Manager, with just two weeks remaining in the position, I’m grateful for another week filled with the people, organizations, businesses, and community moments that make Trafalgar such a special place.

- EVELYN RAY DAY - September 20th, 2026

This week, the Town of Trafalgar, in partnership with Pastor Jack McMahon, officially declared September 20, 2026, Evelyn Ray Day in Trafalgar in recognition of Evelyn’s many years of service and dedication to our community.

It was a privilege to join Evelyn’s family and her church congregation during Sunday service at Trafalgar Community Church to celebrate her remarkable life and the impact she has had on generations of people in Trafalgar.

Evelyn was presented with an official proclamation recognizing her special day, along with a "Key to the Town" of Trafalgar and a commemorative plaque.

A special thank you goes to "A Trophy Business" in Franklin that helped make the plaque and key possible. These are the kinds of community partnerships that allow us to create meaningful moments that will be remembered for years to come.

Evelyn represents something incredibly valuable to Trafalgar, a lifetime of service, connection, and commitment to the people around her. It was an honor for the Town to recognize her and celebrate her with the people who know and love her most.

- SUPPORTING LOCAL BUSINESS

Jodi Alvey, Trafalgar's Civic Support Coordinator, and I stepped out to grab coffee this week from Pearl Coffee Company, another great local vendor contributing to the character and growing small-business community around Trafalgar.

It’s always encouraging to see local businesses investing their time and energy into our community, and we appreciate the partnerships that continue to develop.

Kelsey Pflum stopped in to discuss life insurance options for employees and local businesses. Her role with TransAmerica makes sure individuals in the workforce are supported with quality benefits.

- INVESTING IN LEADERSHIP & THE NEXT GENERATION

I stopped in to visit the Leadership Johnson County Class of 2027 as they kicked off their new programming. Developing strong community leaders is an investment that pays dividends far beyond any single organization or community and this organization continually makes Johnson County stronger.

I joined Adam Sweet at the Indiana FFA Foundation board meeting, where we continue working together to plan for the future of FFA and advocate for opportunities that benefit students and communities across Indiana. Adam and his team are doing incredible things at the FFA Leadership Center in Trafalgar.

- COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

The Trafalgar Chamber of Commerce held its board meeting this week as we continue working to support local businesses and strengthen connections throughout the community.

We also had a great visit from Brooke and Brad Sichting with Pink Lady, who stopped by to look at the Festival Country Amphitheater project. Pink Lady will be providing boring work on the property through a generous sponsorship to the Town and this project.

We are extremely grateful for businesses willing to step forward and contribute their expertise and resources to help make community projects possible.

- TAKING CARE OF OUR UTILITIES

Our utility employees recently pulled a wastewater pump that was experiencing high amperage. When they opened it up, they discovered the culprit: flushable wipes tangled throughout the motor.

Thankfully, our team was able to make the necessary repairs internally and get the pump back into service.

Repairs like this can become extremely expensive when equipment is damaged or fails. Please help our utility crews by remembering one simple rule:

Please do not flush wipes — even if the package says they are “flushable.”

Toilet paper is designed to break down. Wipes are not.

- COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS

I also had the opportunity to attend the Angel Care Gala in support of one of our wonderful community partners. Angel Care does tremendous work in our region, and it was a great evening supporting their mission. Even better, I was able to enjoy the evening with my daughter.

I also stopped by the Bargersville Amphitheater to see how our neighbors are doing and enjoy some live entertainment. It’s always good to see neighboring communities creating places where people can gather, enjoy themselves, and experience the arts.

Finally, I had the pleasure of joining the Southside Voices Podcast, where I was given the opportunity to talk about Trafalgar, our community, and what makes this place so unique.

Looking for something to do tonight?

I’m grateful for the opportunity to share a deeper perspective of our culture here in Trafalgar.

In this podcast conversation, I had the opportunity to talk about Trafalgar, the people who make it special, and the vision for what this community can continue to become.

There is a lot of heart in this town, and I’m thankful to have the opportunity to share a part of its story.

That moment says a lot about the conversation we had with Bryan Gregg on Southside Voices. He talked about developing people who could work anywhere, listening when the answer wasn’t what he expected, and thinking about the decisions that would outlast his time in a position.

We recorded this episode while Bryan was serving as Trafalgar’s first town manager. He has since voluntarily resigned and is beginning a new role with Huston Electric, a company that also gives back to the communities it serves. We wish him well in what comes next.

It's Time For An Update!

It was another busy week in Trafalgar, with a lot happening across our community. From infrastructure repairs and new development to community events and partnerships, there continues to be a lot of momentum in Trafalgar. Here are a few highlights from the week.

- Ryan Drive Repairs

Heavy rains caused a storm drain to wash out and take a portion of the underside of Ryan Drive with it. Many thanks to Lucas Earthworks for responding quickly and completing the necessary repairs and roadway repaving within a week of the incident.

- Bringing Events to Trafalgar

Erin Ludwig has been investing her time and expertise in Trafalgar through concert planning and event coordination. She has several upcoming shows planned for our community, and I am incredibly grateful for the experience and energy she is bringing to Trafalgar.

- Building Stronger Regional Partnerships

I met with the Indy Chamber Economic Development team to share Trafalgar’s vision and learn more about their efforts to bring communities throughout the Indianapolis region together. When our communities work together, we become stronger together.

- Festival Country Amphitheater Sign

Huston Electric’s Sign Division came to Trafalgar to install the new Festival Country sign at the amphitheater. The fit and finish are incredible and are the result of a great collaboration between Festival Country, Huston Electric and Glue Lam Erectors.

- Bands Battling Hunger

The Refuge hosted Bands Battling Hunger, bringing an estimated 600 people through the lawn to support an incredible cause while enjoying our new community space. It was exciting to see the amphitheater and lawn being used exactly as we envisioned when creating this space for Trafalgar.

- Strong Utility Partnerships

Brian Walker with Utility Supply was able to expedite delivery of materials needed to address a utility issue in Trafalgar. Strong partnerships like this allow our Utility Department to respond quickly when needs arise, and we greatly appreciate the support.

- Investing in Cybersecurity

Wright Tech spent time working on our electronic infrastructure as we continue investing in stronger cybersecurity measures throughout Town operations. Protecting our systems and minimizing potential exposure remains an important part of responsible municipal operations.

- Celebrating Indiana

I had the incredible opportunity to meet with Nate Spangle, one of Indiana’s greatest advocates. Learning about his passion for our state and the positive lens through which he sees Indiana was inspiring. I encourage everyone to check out Nate’s podcasts and videos and learn more about the great things happening across our state. Maybe Trafalgar will make an appearance soon.

- Listening to Our Residents

My favorite community advocate, Sandy Adams, caught me out and about this week, and we took some time to talk about the future of our community. Hearing directly from our residents has always been important to me as we navigate Trafalgar’s future, and I truly appreciate these conversations.

- Taking Care of Our Infrastructure

Our Utility Department addressed a repair at the wastewater facility that our team was able to resolve internally. I continue to appreciate our team’s ability to adapt, troubleshoot problems and go above and beyond every day.

AMP Floor Coating also visited Town Hall to address concrete repairs and help protect the longevity of our walls and porch. Mike and his team have become an important partner in our preventative maintenance efforts as we work to proactively protect the Town’s investments.

- Two New Habitat Homes

Dan Planker and Carissa Long stopped in to work with us on officially permitting two upcoming Habitat for Humanity builds in Trafalgar. These homes are the result of a strong partnership between the Town of Trafalgar, Johnson County Housing Coalition and Habitat for Humanity, and we are excited to see these projects move forward.

- Looking Ahead

There is a lot of positive momentum happening throughout Trafalgar. Infrastructure, development, events, partnerships and community spaces are all moving forward, and I am grateful for the staff, residents, businesses and organizations who continue to invest their time and energy into our community.

There is a lot more to come, and I am excited about where we are headed.
