This week had strong momentum in regional partnerships, community recognition, and proactive planning for the future of Trafalgar. From emergency preparedness and cybersecurity discussions to celebrating community achievements and strengthening local relationships, these continued efforts demonstrate the importance of collaboration, innovation, and investing in opportunities that position our community for long term success.
- BAM Weather & Community Safety Planning
I held a meeting with Michael Clark from BAM Weather to gain a deeper understanding of how weather impacts community events and emergency preparedness. We discussed how BAM Weather’s Clarity tool empowers municipalities and organizations across the country to proactively protect lives during potential weather events. We are excited to partner with BAM and utilize their cutting edge technology and expertise to bring this level of planning and protection to the Trafalgar community. We are incredibly fortunate to have an innovative company of this caliber located right here in Johnson County.
Fire Chief Funkhouser facilitated the meeting and shared examples of how BAM Weather and the Clarity tools are already benefiting other communities throughout Johnson County. This is another important proactive step toward improving safety and long term planning.
- Trafalgar Area Chamber of Commerce
I attended a board meeting with the Trafalgar Area Chamber of Commerce to discuss upcoming community events and opportunities for businesses and members to benefit through Chamber involvement. This organization has been a long needed opportunity for the Trafalgar area, and I am appreciative of the dedicated team who worked hard to bring this vision to life. Strong business partnerships are essential to creating a thriving local economy.
- Business Development & Infrastructure Planning
I had the opportunity to meet with a thriving local business owner to discuss the future growth and long term planning of her business. I am grateful for the opportunity to assist in infrastructure and development planning surrounding this incredible local asset to our community. We look forward to sharing more information as plans continue to develop.
- Technology & Live Streaming Improvements
Michael Belden with Roadrunner Computers came by Town Hall to assist with much needed technology upgrades related to our live streaming capabilities. We are continually striving to improve operations and increase efficiency.
- Festival Country Recognition
I was honored to attend the Festival Country Awards Banquet where the Town of Trafalgar received the “New Attraction of the Year” award for the Trafalgar Amphitheater. I was both surprised and incredibly grateful to accept this recognition on behalf of the Town of Trafalgar. This award reflects the tremendous community support and continued investment in creating quality experiences and gathering spaces for residents and visitors alike.
- Primary Election Day and Community
During the Primary Election holiday, I chose to volunteer and work the polls at the Trafalgar Library. I spent the day alongside 5 incredible neighbors where new friendships were formed and meaningful conversations were shared with many members of our community. Opportunities like this are a reminder of the importance of civic engagement and the value of personal connection within our communities.
- Community Leadership Congratulations
Following the election, I had the opportunity to congratulate our Civic Support Coordinator, Jodi Alvey, on her winning election as the next Trustee for F.U.N. Township. We are incredibly proud of Jodi and look forward to supporting her as she transitions into this important leadership role serving the Johnson County community.
- Leadership Johnson County
I attended my final Leadership Johnson County class prior to graduation and greatly appreciated the camaraderie and fellowship shared throughout this experience. The program has been an incredible opportunity for personal and professional growth, and I am grateful for everyone who shared this journey with me. I was especially thankful that one of my mentors, Dave Maurer, was able to attend and share in this final class experience. Dave has contributed greatly to Leadership Johnson County and many other organizations throughout the community, and I am grateful to call him a friend.
- Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Protection
Representatives from WrightTech visited Town Hall to discuss cybersecurity strategies and protection options for municipal operations and infrastructure. It was an informative meeting focused on proactive planning to protect municipalities from increasing outside cyber threats. Planning ahead and investing in preventative measures remain critical to maintaining secure operations for the future.
- Municipal Collaboration
I had the opportunity to meet with Bargersville Town Manager, Dax Norton, and Whiteland Town Manager, Carmen Young, to share strategy, ideas, and experiences. I am fortunate to have such capable and dedicated leaders neighboring Trafalgar, and I always appreciate opportunities to collaborate and learn from the great work taking place in their communities.
- Johnson County Story Project
Megan Yeagy and I, representing the Johnson County Story Project, met with Jody Veldkamp and Todd Jones from the Johnson County Public Library at the Clark Pleasant Branch to plan upcoming events recognizing and honoring individuals who participated in this important Johnson County history initiative. We are excited for the project to soon be on display throughout JCPL library locations and appreciate the partnership helping bring these stories to the community.
- Innovation at the Trafalgar Library
I also had the opportunity to stop by the Trafalgar Library to witness a mural being painted by a robot! It was incredible technology to experience firsthand, and I am always excited to see the innovative ways our local library continues investing in educational opportunities and adding to the resources for our community.
