Happy Juneteenth from Trainer Borough Council

Today, we honor the legacy of those who endured slavery, those who fought for justice, and those who continue to uplift and build our community.

As we reflect, we invite all residents to embrace the spirit of Juneteenth:

• Learn – about the history and impact of Juneteenth
• Connect – with your neighbors and community
• Share – stories, traditions, and conversations
• Grow – together in unity and understanding

Our theme this year: "Honoring Freedom, Legacy, and Light."

Freedom represents the historical and ongoing pursuit of liberation—from slavery to civil rights to the continued fight for equity today.
Legacy honors the ancestors and changemakers whose courage and contributions shaped the foundation of our communities and our future.
Light symbolizes hope, truth, remembrance, and unity—illuminating the path forward as we work together for justice and understanding.

Proverbs 13:9: “The light of the righteous shines brightly.”

Today, we are also proud to display the official Juneteenth flag at our Municipal Building—a symbol of freedom long delayed, but never forgotten.

May we continue to move forward, together.

Trainer Borough Council proudly joins communities across the country in honoring Juneteenth — a day of remembrance, celebration, and unity.

As we light up our Municipal Building in tribute, we begin a series of daily posts leading up to Juneteenth on June 19.

Many communities display either the official Juneteenth flag colors — red, white, and blue — or the Pan-African colors — red, black, and green — to celebrate the resilience and cultural pride of the African American community.

Red represents the resilience, sacrifice, and shared bloodshed of African ancestors.

Green symbolizes growth, prosperity, and the promise of a bright future.

Black typically represents the African American community, though in our lighting, we respectfully use purple in place of black, since black is difficult to see on the building after dark.

Purple helps maintain the spirit of remembrance and dignity.

Yellow (or gold), often used in broader African unity symbolism, represents prosperity, hope, and the richness of African heritage. It evokes warmth, celebration, and a bright future rooted in resilience.

Our use of these colors reflects a deep respect for cultural heritage and inclusion, while also ensuring the display remains visible and impactful at night.

This year’s theme: “Honoring Freedom, Legacy, and Light.”

Freedom — Acknowledging the long, ongoing journey toward liberation, justice, and equal opportunity for all.

Legacy — Honoring the strength, stories, and sacrifices passed down through generations.

Light — Shining truth, hope, and unity into our communities as we move forward together.

Stay with us as we continue to share the history, meaning, and celebration of Juneteenth.
