Starting June 3rd we will be having BINGO at the American Legion Post 35.

Doors open at 4:30.
Card sales start at 5:30.
First ball drops at 6:30.

Kitchen will also be open.

Come on out and support our bingo and our Veterans.

Four Chaplains Tribute Dinner

My fourth year as Commander of American Legion Post 35 in Traverse City and our fourth time paying tribute to the Chaplains credited with saving lives and restoring hope to the 900 soldiers aboard USAT Dorchester when she was struck by a German U-boat torpedo. When distributing life vests and ran out, the Chaplains removed theirs and gave them to others. They continued to pray with the cold, frightened soldiers and were last seen locked arm in arm, bracing against the slanting deck as the ship slipped below the water. American Legion posts are tasked with keeping the story of courage and selfless service alive. The Saga of the Four Chaplains was read by a Boys State delegate; Chaplains of each of the four faiths read the biographies and prayed; a Navy vet "piped them over the side"; our honor guard performed military honors. After the ceremony, we had a meal freshly prepared in our kitchen. This event has become an important part of our ceremonies as an American Legion Post.
