⚠️ Beach Advisory Update ⚠️

Water sampling conducted on Thursday was performed to resample Sunset Park and East Bay Park, both of which had previously exceeded safe swimming standards due to elevated E. coli levels.

• East Bay Park has returned to LEVEL 1 status, meaning water quality is within acceptable limits for full-body contact.
• Sunset Park continues to remain under a LEVEL 3 advisory, recommending no body contact through the weekend.

The beaches will be resampled on Wednesday, June 24, with updated results expected on Thursday, June 25.

On June 19, 2026, we commemorate Juneteenth, the day when the last enslaved African Americans in the United States learned of their freedom more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

Juneteenth is more than a celebration of freedom, it is a reminder of the ongoing pursuit of civil rights. The struggle to secure equal treatment, voting rights, fair housing, education, employment opportunities, and freedom from discrimination is rooted in the promise of emancipation and continues today.

As we honor this historic day, we recognize the resilience, achievements, and contributions of Black Americans and recommit ourselves to advancing equity and justice for all.
Every human being has the right to be free.

⚠️ Beach Advisory ⚠️

On Wednesday, Traverse City beaches were tested for E. coli.

• East Bay Park is under a Level 3 Advisory, meaning no body contact with the water is recommended.
• Sunset Park is under a Level 2 Advisory, meaning partial body contact only is recommended.

Both beaches were retested Thursday. Updated test results will be available Friday on our social media channels.
