Last Wednesday, the Travis First Sergeants, led by MSgt Nguyen (60 SGSC CCF) and MSgt Britt (MDSS CCF), brought members of Team Travis to participate in the Real Engagement for Airmen’s Lives (R.E.A.L.) program; an experience that leaves a lasting impact long after the day is over.

R.E.A.L. began in 2016 through the Military Assistance Program at the California Medical Facility, creating an opportunity for Airmen to engage in honest, powerful conversations with inmates who share real-life stories about choices, consequences, hardship, and redemption. These conversations provide perspective that cannot be taught in a classroom and serve as a reminder of how quickly life can change based on the decisions we make.

Since its inception, the program has positively influenced countless Airmen at Travis AFB by encouraging personal growth, accountability, resilience, and meaningful reflection. After pausing during COVID-19, the Travis First Sergeants revived the program in 2023 and continue to invest in experiences that strengthen and support the lives and futures of our Airmen.

Programs like R.E.A.L. are more than just events — they are reminders that connection, perspective, and genuine conversations can truly change lives. Stay tuned for the next one coming again shortly. Diamond up!

The Travis First Sergeants hosted our 16th Annual Gold Star Families Ruck March this past Saturday, and it was truly an incredible event to be part of. The support from Team Travis was nothing short of inspiring. This year, we doubled our participation and secured significant funding that will directly support our deserving Gold Star families.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this event possible; our Wing Commander, Col Shroyer, our Gold Star families, every participant, volunteer, and of course, our outstanding First Sergeants. Your support, dedication, and presence made a lasting impact.

A special and well-deserved shoutout goes to our event leads, SMSgt Evelyn Chavez and TSgt Shane Farrell (660 AMXS CCF/Full-Time Shirt). Their passion, countless hours of hard work, and unwavering commitment carried this event across the finish line and turned it into a tremendous success. The amount of effort behind the scenes was a heavy lift, and they absolutely delivered.

Most importantly, this event was a powerful reminder of why we continue this tradition year after year; to honor, remember, and stand beside the families of our fallen heroes.

Our guest speaker, Jonathan Velono Jr., son of Gold Star member MSgt Jonathan Velono, delivered a speech that moved everyone in attendance. With incredible courage, passion, and maturity beyond his years, he spoke about honoring his father and ensuring these families are never forgotten. His words were powerful, genuine, and unforgettable. It was truly a speech for the ages and a reminder of why this event remains such an important part of our community and mission.

We hope to see you next year as we continue to honor the legacy of our fallen and support the families they left behind! Diamond up!

The Travis First Sergeant Council would not be able to support our troops without the generosity and dedication of unsung heroes like retired TSgt James Holtz. Through his incredible partnership and unwavering support of Operation Warm Heart (OWH), he has made a lasting impact on countless Airmen and families over the years through substantial donations and advocacy.

Today, we had the privilege of welcoming him back to Travis AFB for a special visit and lunch with the First Sergeants; an opportunity we were honored to provide. A special thank you to MSgt Donna Ajir (860 AMXS), MSgt Tony Kasch (60 AMXS), and (S)MSgt Christopher Long (60 APS) for taking the time to join and show their appreciation for his continued support.

Following lunch, MSgt Ajir gave TSgt Holtz a private tour of the C-17, allowing him to relive some of his proud maintenance days serving our Air Force. It was truly special to see his passion and connection to the mission still burning strong.

We are also excited to welcome him as a B4 sponsor as he continues his monthly donations and encourages others to support Operation Warm Heart. His generosity, advocacy, and commitment to taking care of Airmen embody the very spirit of service and community.

From all of us at the Travis First Sergeant Council — thank you, TSgt Holtz, for everything you continue to do for our Airmen. Your support truly makes a difference!

Today, the Travis First Sergeants and Chiefs brought the trophy back home in the ALS volleyball game. From the first serve to the final point, there was no question what could be accomplished through teamwork, resilience, and a shared commitment to one another.
While the victory felt great, the real highlight was standing alongside and supporting the next generation of Air Force leaders. Events like this are a reminder that the future of our Air Force is in good hands. The professionalism, energy, and leadership displayed by these emerging leaders make it clear that the future remains incredibly bright. Diamond up!

Last Friday was a demanding and meaningful day, marked by two Change of Command ceremonies for the 6 ARS and the 22 AS. These ceremonies are among the most significant moments in a First Sergeant’s role; honoring leadership, legacy, and the continued strength of our units.
As we bid farewell to our outgoing commanders, we also proudly welcomed our incoming leaders. These transitions reflect the high operational tempo we sustain and the reality that change is constant. As First Sergeants, we embrace the responsibility to adapt quickly—carrying forward trust, continuity, and mission focus while building new rapport with each commander.
From the Travis First Sergeant Council, it has been an absolute honor to serve alongside our outgoing commanders. Their leadership has left a lasting impact, and we are grateful for the opportunity to support them. We look ahead with the same commitment and enthusiasm as we welcome and stand beside our new commanders. Diamond up!

The Travis First Sergeants had an incredibly full and meaningful week. We had the opportunity to partner with the 934th Air Reserve Unit out of Minneapolis, where eight of our Reserve First Sergeant counterparts joined us. They spent time breaking bread with our team and shadowing throughout the day—gaining valuable experience and strengthening the bond between our Total Force partners. A special thank you to MSgt Robin Barber (934 SFS/CCF) for her outstanding work in coordinating and bringing this collaboration together.
While continuing to execute our day-to-day responsibilities, Travis First Sergeants—alongside our Reserve teammates—also supported the Wings Over Solano Air Show from Friday through Sunday. From running souvenir booths to supporting beer tents, our team showed up wherever needed to ensure the event’s success.
Even with operations pulling us in every direction, we remained committed to taking care of our people. Through Operation Warm Heart, led by MSgt Amin Haqani (60 OSS/CCF), we made it a priority to support the volunteers who made the air show possible. Throughout the weekend, our team delivered snacks, fruit, and drinks across the flightline—ensuring those giving their time and energy were seen, supported, and appreciated.
It was a demanding week, but one that truly reflected what it means to serve—supporting the mission, strengthening partnerships, and most importantly, taking care of people.
