A large storm system will impact the central U.S. early next week. There is high confidence for wind gusts over 30 mph, but confidence remains lower on how much snow we could see. Be sure to monitor the latest weather forecasts as things will change between now and then.

Freezing rain can lead to icy roads & black ice — especially on bridges.

Be safe while driving:
- Pay attention to the road & wear your seatbelt.
- Drive slow and leave extra space between vehicles.
- Pull over if driving conditions are dangerous.

Snow will mix with or change over to rain at times through Friday. Minor accumulations are possible across central Illinois. Expect a dusting up to around an inch with localized higher amounts.

Seasonable & dry conditions are be expected through midweek. There is a 20-40% chance of a rain/snow mix late Saturday night into Sunday as a weather system moves through the area.

Today marks the 10-year anniversary of the November 17, 2013 tornado outbreak -- one of the worst outbreaks to ever affect Illinois and Indiana. Some of the more notable tornadoes to occur in the area were: an EF-4 that impacted Washington, IL; an EF-2 that impacted Coal City and Diamond, IL; and an EF-2 that impacted the Manhattan and Frankfort, IL areas.

For more information on the tornadoes that impacted northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana, see our event summary web page here: https://www.weather.gov/lot/2013_11_17_tornado_outbreak

Additional information on this tornado outbreak can also be found in this story map put together by our neighbors US National Weather Service Central Illinois: https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/b13d60d65c434d63a915cc7a88afa6fd

Winter Weather Preparedness Week starts today.

Winter Weather Preparedness Week starts today.

There is potential for a quick burst of snow Tuesday morning, especially along the I-74 corridor and northward. The band of snow looks to sweep eastward across the state starting around 5 to 7 AM near Galesburg, and arriving at Danville closer to noon. Be sure to check conditions before driving Tuesday morning. Slippery travel, brief heavy snow and low visibility, gusty winds up to 40 mph, and light snow accumulations are possible.

It's not winter yet but sure will feel like for the next few nights!
The Warming Center at our Rust Transitional Center will open today October 30th 2023 at 6pm until 8am and will remain open nightly as needed.
If you are in need of somewhere to go and be inside out of the elements please come to
243 Derby St, Pekin

Expect a cold evening for trick or treat festivities, with temps in the low 30s and a stiff northwest wind gusting over 30 (possibly nearing 40) mph. Forecast wind chills span the mid teens to mid 20s during that time, so bundle up if you're going out!

Temperatures will remain well above normal through the end of this work week, but cooler weather will arrive this weekend behind a cold front progged to cross the Prairie State late Friday. 75-90% chances will exist for morning lows in the 20s early next work week.

As a reminder, the Lincoln Doppler radar will be taken offline today, as work begins to replace the pedestal which holds the antenna. It will be replaced with a factory refurbishment, which includes replacement of gears, motors, and position sensors. This will also involve removing the radar dome and taking the transmitter/receiver dish apart. This will be the first time the dome has been removed since the radar was originally installed in 1995.

The radar is expected to be back in service by Friday, November 3rd.

Winds will settle down tonight into Sunday for some pleasant fall weather with near normal lows in the lower 40s tonight and highs in the lower 60s Sunday. A warming trend will take place Monday and Tuesday with highs in the lower 70s Monday and near 80 on Tuesday. Chances for rain and a few thunderstorms will gradually spread southeastward through the area Monday through Wednesday, and continue on Thursday. The best chances of 40 to 70 percent look to take place Tuesday night through Wednesday night, but Monday and Tuesday any chances should remain confined toward northern and western portions of central Illinois.
