RSA Mobile APP

If you've been trying to place holds or renew items using the RSA Mobile App, unfortunately we've received news from our vendor that the app has had a fatal server error, and needs to be rebuilt.

Unfortunately, there is not another app that can be used in its place at this time. The developer is working on a new app to replace the functions of the existing app and we are told that this should be ready early in 2024.

In the meantime, to place holds or renew items, try logging into our catalog using a browser. Here is the link: https://alsi.sdp.sirsi.net/client/en_US/TremontDL
You can also call the library to renew items and place holds.

We know that the app is valued by many of our library's patrons and the loss of its functions will be frustrating to many. We can only apologize for the inconvenience caused by this situation.

The good news is you can still use the app to show your barcode to check out books, and you’ll still receive text and email alerts regarding holds and renewals.

Thank you so much for your patience and understanding!

Meet Lizzi and Chelsea, our new Storytime Team!

Lizzi Ogle (right) is our new Story Time Lead. Lizzi is a beloved, familiar face here, since she has been on staff for nearly five years. Most recently, she served as our Youth Assistant, helping with all of our youth programming and creating and running programs of her own. She brings energy, a passion for early education, and a wealth of experience to this role. We are incredibly lucky to have her at Tremont Library.

We're also excited to welcome Chelsea Picken (left), our new Youth Assistant. Chelsea will be assisting us across all youth programming, especially Tales Under the Tree and Story Hour. She is currently working on her Master's Degree and brings her background in literature and education to this role. Most recently, she taught English as a second language to students in China. TODAY'S THE DAY! On December 3rd, 200 years ago, Illinois became a state!

Our friends at Newberry Library in Chicago shared this map from 200 years ago-- check it out! Illinois was drawn with a panhandle in the upper east corner because map surveyors hadn't made it out to the great lakes yet-- so they had to guess on lake placement. That's also why Wisconsin is so wide.

in 1818, Illinois joined the United States after congressional approval of its state constitution. This map of the country, from 1818, reflects the recent addition of our dear state. ..
What's the deal with the panhandle in the northeast corner of Illinois? General Land Office surveyors hadn't yet reached the Great Lakes at this time. As a result, they relied on existing information that located Lake Michigan too far east in relation to the Mississippi River--which accounts for the Illinois panhandle jutting out to the east, as well as for the distended look of what would eventually become Wisconsin. ..
Also of note is the vast territory west of Illinois, depicted here as a near-empty expanse open for westward expansion when in fact it was home to a variety of Indigenous peoples. Maps and boundaries are human-made constructions, and they reflect the motives/biases/prejudices of their creators!..

Kate DiCamillo on the magic of reading aloud

We love this reflection from children's author Kate DiCamillo about "the universal and age-defying magic of listening to a shared story."

We tend to reserve reading aloud for kids or others who can't read on their own. But beloved children's book author Kate DiCamillo thinks the practice offers a special opportunity for people to connect. She offers her humble opinion on the universal and age-defying magic of listening to a shared sto...

Sometimes people are surprised at how rambunctious the children's area can get. We do think children (and adults!) should have respect for community places, and other people, but we don't think they need to learn to be "shhh" level quiet at the library-- at least not all the time. The library is for learning and growing! And we are all teachers.
