In recognition of National EMS Week, we are proud to introduce the dedicated members of the Thatcher-Penrose Fire Department who selflessly volunteer their time to train, educate themselves, and serve their community. The department's operations are heavily reliant on these committed individuals.

We also extend our gratitude and appreciation to the other EMS families for their unwavering support. Thank you!

Have you noticed an increase in smoke stacks throughout the area lately?

Now is the time farmers are going to be preparing their fields for harvesting by burning unwanted weeds and stubble, known as agricultural burning.

A few reminders as we enter into this fire season:

• Per county ordinance 385, a burn permit is required… yes even agricultural burns.
Failing to follow the guidelines that go along with this ordinance may result in a class B misdemeanor.
This includes but not limited to: absolutely no burning in a burn barrel, no burning of household items (Everyday garbage, Plastic materials, chemicals, etc.), no burning on Sundays, no burning the week of the county fair.
You must stay with the fire for the entirety of the burn and it must be out 1 hour before dark (with exception to a campfire in an approved container that is 15 feet from any structure), bonfires must be 50 feet from any structure.

To obtain a burn permit online you can search
BoxEldercountyut.gov once here click the 3 lines in the upper corner, navigate to Departments, Fire, and from there you may choose which permit you’d like to obtain.

• The clearing index must be above 500 to issue permits or to burn, even after a permit is obtained. The clearing index may change throughout the day and it is your job to make sure it is above 500 before you burn.
You can check this at weather.gov and search Utah clearing index.

• Open burn windows for residential burns are
March 30 - May 30 & Sept 15 - Oct 30.

• Don’t hesitate to call if you see a burn that seems out of control, or left unattended.

• Please be mindful of this start of agricultural season when calling into dispatch to report a controlled burn.

Hope to see you there!!!

Did you know our jurisdiction as first responders has mutual aid from both Tremonton and Brigham City ambulance services. But this does not mean we fall in either of their city limits.
If you make a 911 call in Thatcher, Penrose, Bothwell, Howell, or Promontory you will be automatically connected to our amazing Box Elder Communications-BECC.
If you need to contact the Non-Emergency Box Elder Communications Center Dispatch please save these numbers and call (435) 856-7023 or (435) 723-3421.

We understand there has been some confusion with the dispatch change for some agencies. Here is a map to hopefully help clarify and make it easier.

If the incident is occurring in TREMONTON, GARLAND, BRIGHAM or PERRY city limits which are highlighted in yellow on the map you will need to call Weber Dispatch at 801-395-8221.

Freeway areas still come to Box Elder Dispatch.

All other areas not mentioned still call the non emergency number for BOX ELDER DISPATCH 435-856-7023

If you are not sure where you live, zip codes do NOT mean city limits. Just because you have a Tremonton zip code does not mean you are in city limits. If you pay your utility bills to that city, fall under their mayor or city council, it's a good indicator if you are in city limits.

If all else fails and you are unsure you can always dial 911.
