Good afternoon Bangert Families!
This is Dr. Alexis McKeel, Principal at Bangert Elementary School! Thank you for a fantastic first week of school! Mr. Lee and I are in awe of this community and the work that you all do to support us.
Please ensure you are connected to Classdojo if you are a Parent or Guardian of a Bangert Bear. This is where we communicate immediate updates such as delays to dismissals or changes in the schedule for the day. If you need assistance with this, please contact me at [email protected].
On Wednesday, September 2nd there is Blood Drive at First Baptist Church in New Bern in memory of Mrs. Catherine Alligood from 1:00-6:00.
On Friday, September 4th, our Charleston Wrap fundraiser information will be sent home with your student. Please help our PTA raise money for some classroom furniture for a few of our classrooms!
After a week of carpool drop off and pick up, we want to give you a few reminders:
-Students should not be dropped off by a parked car on Canterbury Rd/Devonshire Dr. If you are seen doing this, it will be addressed by our crossing guard, Mr. Cullipher or by Officer York. This is a huge safety concern for us. Please utilize the car line for all students being dropped off. I can assure you that it does move quicker as we continue moving through the school year.
-There is a sign out front that states no U-Turn in front of our school. Please adhere to this rule in order to prevent collisions and congestion.
-No students should be dropped off in the faculty lot unless there has been prior permission from administration with our Exceptional Children’s families and any of our medically fragile students. When more people do this, it creates congestion for folks leaving the carline.
-Please be reminded that if there is inclement weather such as a thunderstorm or lightning, carpool students, bus riders, walkers/bikers will not be released until it is safe to do so. This is for the safety of all of our students and staff. Additionally, inclement weather will delay the dismissal process. I appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter.
-NEW FOR THIS YEAR: You must use the blue car tag from AH Bangert to pick up students in the carpool line. This is to ensure that the car tag did come from AHB. While Coach Swicegood and Mr. C do a wonderful job of knowing cars and families, this is a safety procedure we are putting in place in the event of their absence so that we know the car tag was obtained from AHB. This will begin being enforced on Monday, September 7th. If you do not have the blue car tag on your rearview mirror, Coach Swicegood and Mr. C will ask you to roll down your window and will have to do an ID check with the front office to ensure you are on the list to pick the child up. If your child is not normally a car rider but will be at some point this year, please email [email protected] with your child’s name and their homeroom teacher so she can get it sent home for you. The original blue car tag and one extra are automatically free. If you require more than 2 because you have a rotation of family members picking up your child, each additional car tag is $1.
Mr. Lee is actively monitoring students that are being added to bus routes and making contact with the families of those students. If you have any questions or concerns in regards to buses, please contact him at [email protected].
This is just a reminder that breakfast and lunch are free at AHB! Breakfast will be served in the cafeteria tomorrow at 7:30. Students should enter the building, go through the cafeteria line, eat their breakfast in the cafeteria, and then report to class. Please ask your child what their lunch number is and help us with the memorization process.
Looking ahead, there is no school on Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day! 3rd Grade Students will take their Beginning of Grade Test on Tuesday, September 8th. Please ensure that your child is on time to school and well rested for this test. You may begin eating lunch with your student on Monday, September 21st. Please see our reminders about lunch with families down below.
Our Bangert Bears Build Belonging, Engage in Learning, Accept Responsibility, Respect Everyone, and Strive for Excellence! We are so excited to live out our motto this year and cannot wait to watch how our students grow!
Thank you for your continued support of AH Bangert Elementary School! Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!
