Some days change a nation forever.
September 11, 2001, is one of those days.

We remember the mothers and fathers, husbands and wives, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, friends, coworkers, and innocent people who never had the chance to go home.

And we especially remember the 343 firefighters who answered a call that would be their last.

They walked into the fire.
They climbed the stairs.
They searched for strangers as if they were their own.
They knew the danger, yet they continued forward.

343 firefighters who gave everything they had to save someone else.

Behind every number was a name.
Behind every name was a family.
Behind every family is a story that continues to this day.

Twenty-five years later, the pain of that morning may have grown quieter, but the sacrifice has never become smaller.

As firefighters, we understand the weight of answering the call. We understand the brotherhood. We understand that when the alarm sounds, you don’t always know what you’re walking into — you simply go.

Today, we stand with the families who still miss their loved ones. We honor every first responder who gave their life that day. And we remember the courage that was displayed in the darkest moments.

2,977 lives.
343 firefighters.
One day we must never forget.

May their names forever be spoken.
May their families forever be remembered.
May their sacrifice forever inspire us to serve with courage, compassion, and heart.

It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Deputy Sheriff Bobby Votaw.
Deputy Votaw dedicated himself to the service of the community. His passing is a tremendous loss to his family, friends, fellow deputies and to the law-enforcement community.
May his service be remembered, his sacrifice honored, and his legacy never forgotten.
May your thoughts and prayers be with his family and friends during this difficult time.

It is with a heavy heart I share the news of my Dad passing away unexpectedly. Tuesday 9/8/26 Hoss was in Abilene just finishing a doctor's appointment when the Lord called him home. The family is making arrangements with Hamil Family funeral home. I will share the funeral date and time once it's set.

Taylor County is currently under a Burn Ban.

With dry conditions and increased wildfire potential, we urge everyone to use extreme caution and refrain from outdoor burning.

🚫 No brush piles or trash burning
🚫 No unauthorized outdoor burning
⚠️ Avoid activities that could create sparks or ignite dry vegetation

A small fire can quickly become a large wildfire. Please help protect our homes, land, firefighters, and communities by not burning while the ban is in effect.

🚨 TRAFFIC UPDATE 🚨

All Trent Volunteer Fire Department units are now back in service.

The scene has been turned over to TxDOT, DPS, and the cleanup crews, who are finishing operations.

🚧 Westbound I-20 has been reopened.

Thank you to everyone for your patience and for giving first responders the space they needed to work safely.

The Nolan County Commissioners Court has lifted the county-wide burn ban, effective immediately.

Residents may resume outdoor burning, but are urged to continue exercising caution and to follow all applicable safety guidelines.
