56 years ago on July 12, the bill creating the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) was signed into law.

Since then, New Jersey’s legacy wraparound program that provides financial, academic and social support to students has grown to help generations realize opportunity through higher education.

Research from our office shows EOF strengthens pathways for underrepresented students, helps them academically outperform non-EOF peers, and graduates them at higher rates from public institutions.

See the EOF report for a deeper data dive and more about the program at nj.gov/highereducation/EOF/index.shtml

Community colleges are critical economic engines. In New Jersey, 40 percent of enrollment and 24 percent of completions have come from this sector in the past decade.

Speaking at NJ's Community Colleges' Pathways Summit today, Secretary Bridges shared just how vital a role they play.

As we continue to shape the future of education and workforce training in New Jersey to strengthen opportunity and better align with what future industry will demand from its workforce, remaining collaboratively engaged will serve us well.

College has immense value for all. But it is perhaps most critical to those within the margins, for whom a degree can make all the difference.

From generous need-based financial aid that’s making college more affordable to initiatives helping to retain students and support them along their paths to a degree and into the workforce, the result of our investments is a New Jersey that is better equipped than ever to close opportunity and achievement gaps.

Today Secretary Bridges testified before committees in both chambers of the New Jersey state legislature to share how we will keep driving investments forward for students pursuing higher education in the state.
