CROCKETT COUNTY, TN- On Tuesday, District Attorney General Frederick H. Agee was honored to be invited to speak to The Exchange Club of Crockett County by Club President Bethany Outlaw and Vice President Karen Utley at the Chamber of Commerce.

During the meeting, General Agee discussed the importance of protecting children in our communities and holding accountable those who commit acts of abuse against them. He provided an update on recent prosecutions, how his administration evaluates these types of cases, and the additional personnel added to the District Attorney’s office to assist in strengthening prosecutions and better serving Victims.

The Exchange Club of Crockett County supports the Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse, an organization dedicated to preventing child abuse and providing support and services to children and families.
Our office works closely with the Carl Perkins Center in investigating and prosecuting cases involving child abuse and child sexual offenses.

We thank the Exchange Club of Crockett County for its continued commitment to protecting children and supporting organizations that assist us in holding dangerous child abusers accountable.

Elder Abuse Victim Receives Full Restitution

GIBSON COUNTY, TN- On July 27, 2026, in the Circuit Court of Gibson County, Thomas Coley pled guilty to Theft over $10,000 and received a sentence of seven months to serve in jail, with the balance of a five-year sentence suspended only upon payment of restitution in full. The defendant paid the full restitution of $39,600 on the day of his plea and due to his lack of criminal history, was placed on supervision with State Probation, with the additional conditions of completing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Classes and maintaining full-time employment.

On December 11, 2025, Coley was involved in a fraudulent scam that preyed on a 77-year-old victim in Milan. The perpetrators pretended to be employed by “Apple Security,” and claimed that “Apple Pay” mistakenly deposited $40,000 into her bank account when the amount should have been $400. They requested the victim withdraw $39, 600 in cash from her account to repay them. The defendant, who gave a false name, met with the victim and retrieved the cash. Once the victim realized the deposit was a fraudulent scam, she contacted law enforcement. Utilizing her residential security video recording and the Milan Police Department’s Flock cameras, the suspect vehicle was located and detained in Dunwoody, Georgia, in the possession of the defendant, who was positively identified by the victim.

“Unfortunately, there has been a proliferation of scammers who prey on elderly victims in our community vulnerable to intimidation by perpetrators who pressure them with false legal action if they don’t comply with their demands. Fortunately, in this case, thanks to the diligent work of the Milan Police Department in retrieving video evidence and tracking that information to another state, this defendant was successfully prosecuted and the victim made whole again financially. Our Office and our Courts ensured that the defendant was not released from incarceration until that happened.”

Today we are unfortunately saying our goodbyes to Assistant District Attorney Jacob London.

Jacob, a Dyer, Tennessee native, started his career as a prosecutor with our office after graduating from the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law in 2022. Jacob has gained a tremendous amount of courtroom experience handling thousands of cases in almost every Court within the 28th Judicial District (Gibson, Crockett, and Haywood counties).

Jacob will be moving to Nashville, Tennessee to begin his career as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Middle District.

Jacob, we are proud of the effort and dedication you have demonstrated while serving the people of the 28th Judicial District. Although we are saddened to see you leave, we are excited for you as you start in your new career. You have been a tremendous asset to this office, and we have no doubt that the United States Attorney's Office is gaining an outstanding prosecutor and public servant. We wish you continued success in your new career.

HAYWOOD COUNTY, TN- District Attorney General Attends Groundbreaking Ceremony

Our office was proud to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Haywood County High School. The new high school is scheduled to open in the fall of 2028 and will feature upgraded modern classrooms and athletic facilities. The location is just off I-40 at Exit 56 on Anderson Road.

“This was a great day for families with the groundbreaking of the new Haywood County High School. Congratulations to the local leaders who came together to invest in our children. Our office understands that if parents and our education system properly educate and train children to make them employable, they are more likely to be productive members of the community and less likely to be a burden on taxpayers through the expensive and costly criminal justice system. We believe this new facility will assist the students in achieving their goals and dreams for the future.”

As Independence Day approaches, our office is excited to highlight a couple of community fireworks displays taking place in Gibson County this evening.

We encourage residents throughout the 28th Judicial District to attend and enjoy these local celebrations as we commemorate our nation's independence and look ahead to the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

HAYWOOD COUNTY, TN- On Monday, June 29, 2026, in Haywood County Circuit Court, Brandon Sensabaugh aka Walker (37) was sentenced by the Honorable Judge Clayburn Peeples to the maximum penalty under the law. Sensabaugh will serve 30 years with parole eligibility after forty-five percent of service in the Tennessee Department of Correction. The Defendant will now be transferred to the Tipton County Jail in the 25th Judicial District where he has a Violation of Probation pending in Circuit Court for Attempted Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and faces up to an additional 10 years in the Tennessee Department of Correction.

On May 19, 2026, after a two-day jury trial, a Haywood County Jury found Sensabaugh guilty of the Vehicular Homicide of Matthew Bond. Sensabaugh was also convicted of D.U.I. 2nd Offense, Driving on Revoked License 3rd Offense, and Reckless Driving.

On January 6, 2022, Matthew Bond (23) was driving on Highway 179 Stanton-Koko Road to buy food to take with him to work at Black and Decker, when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Brandon Sensabaugh. Sensabaugh was driving 106 miles per hour on an icy road while under the influence of Co***ne, Ma*****na, and alcohol. The defendant drove into Bond’s lane of travel and violently impacted Bond’s vehicle, causing Bond to be trapped until first responders could extricate him. Tragically, Mr. Bond passed away at the scene.

“We want to again thank the Haywood County Jurors for holding the Defendant accountable for this senseless and irresponsible act that took the life of a wonderful young man who had the whole world ahead of him. Also, we want to thank Judge Peeples for sentencing the Defendant to the maximum penalty the law will allow. Our hearts go out to the Victim’s mother, family, and friends and we hope our office has achieved a sense of justice for them.”

HAYWOOD COUNTY, TN- On June 29, 2026, in Haywood County Circuit Court, Miguel De Jesus-Flores (45) was sentenced by the Honorable Judge Clayburn Peeples. De Jesus-Flores will serve 92 years at 100% in the Tennessee Department of Correction.

On April 21, 2026, after a two-day jury trial in the Circuit Court of Haywood County, De Jesus-Flores was found Guilty of all Counts in the indictment: Two Counts of R**e of a Child, Three Counts of R**e, Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child, and In**st.

Between 2015-2020, the defendant r***d his biological daughter from the age of 10 years to 16 years old. She became pregnant and gave birth to a baby girl, who developed medical issues requiring admittance to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital. After genetic testing revealing consanguinity, the Victim disclosed to LeBonheur and law enforcement the identity of her child’s father.

“We appreciate Judge Peeples recognizing how egregious this act was by sentencing the Defendant to the maximum sentence of 92 years to serve at 100%. Our office has again successfully removed a violent offender from our community, and we will continue to focus on offenders that pose a threat; especially to our most vulnerable citizens such as the Victim in this case. Please pray for the Victim so she may one day find peace and comfort after being subjected to unimaginable sexual abuse.”

HAYWOOD COUNTY, TN— On June 29, 2026, Jermis Jones (44) was sentenced in Haywood County Circuit Court by the Honorable Clayburn Peeples to an additional 34 years consecutive to his mandatory life sentence for murdering with premeditation Perish Tyus. Under Tennessee Law, when a defendant is convicted of first degree murder an automatic life sentence is imposed and any additional convictions are resolved at a sentencing hearing.

“Our office requested the maximum sentence and we appreciate Judge Peeples sending a strong message that violent offenders will be held accountable and removed from our community for as long as possible. Unless Mr. Jones gets some relief at the Court of the Appeals, he will never walk as a free man again and the community is safer for that.”

On November 4, 2025, after a two-day jury trial in the Circuit Court of Haywood County, Jermis Jones was found Guilty of all charges on the indictment: First Degree Murder, Attempted Second Degree Murder, Aggravated Assault, Reckless Endangerment, Employing a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Tampering with Evidence, and Retaliation for Past Action.

On December 18, 2022, as the victim, Perish Tyus, was dropping off her four-year old son she shared with the defendant, at the paternal grandmother’s residence, Jones laid in wait, approached her vehicle and shot the victim four times, immediately killing her. The victim’s cousin, Marques Owens, was seated in the passenger seat, where a separate bullet hole was discovered. The child was seated in the rear passenger area, where a bullet was found lodged in the door next to his car seat. The defendant, who has been convicted of three separate drug felonies, fled the area, disposed of his gun, and hid in a carport storage closet, where he was apprehended by law enforcement. Upon his arrest, he made threats to the responding officers.

“Our hearts again go out to Ms. Tyus’s family this was a senseless, violent, act by an ex-domestic partner. Over the last 5 years, my administration has focused on removing violent offenders like Jermis Jones from Crockett, Gibson, and Haywood Counties. We have seen a reduction in our violent crime rate because our office is prioritizing prosecuting violent criminals and through the diligent work of our law enforcement agencies.”

GIBSON COUNTY, TENN--Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the request of the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation ...

GIBSON COUNTY, TENN--Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the request of the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), a search warrant was executed on The City Limits Bar and Grill in Trenton, TN by the Office of the District Attorney General for the 28th Judicial District, the Trenton Police Department, and TDEC.

TDEC received an anonymous complaint of the City Limits Bar and Grill illegally dumping wastewater, including sewage, through their plumbing into the North Fork Forked Deer River, a tributary of the Forked Deer River. TDEC requested permission to conduct a dye test as part of a sewage discharge investigation in the business but was denied access. Subsequently, TDEC contacted the District Attorney’s Office to assist in obtaining a search warrant authorizing the investigative test.

During the inspection, it was confirmed through dye testing that the building’s plumbing led directly to the North Fork Forked Deer River, where the wastewater and sewage was released. TDEC has issued the City Limits Bar and Grill a Notice of Violation, which gives the business 30 days to remedy the wastewater issue before criminal charges may be filed by our Office.

“This is a serious health issue for the People of Gibson County and our local ecosystem. We are preparing to petition the Gibson County Circuit Court to close this establishment until the owner remedies the unsafe condition. We hope that the owners will take initiative to stop dumping sewage into the river. We thank the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation for bringing our attention to this matter and the Trenton Police Department for their assistance in serving the search warrant.”
