🚨 Wayne County Boaters ! Please remember when you’re out on the water and visiting some of the small islands to respect the land and law in those areas.

Respect the Islands. Protect Our Natural Resources.

As summer boating season continues, we've received complaints involving activity on several of the outlying islands surrounding Grosse Ile, particularly Celeron Island, which is part of the Pointe Mouillee State Game Area.

These islands are public lands managed by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and protected by state law. They are open for everyone to enjoy responsibly, but they are not places where the rules do not apply.

Before heading out on the water, please remember:

• Alcohol is prohibited within the Pointe Mouillee State Game Area, including Celeron and Stoney Island.

• Campfires and ground fires are prohibited.

• Camping is not permitted.

• The area is closed to public access from 11:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. unless specifically authorized by the DNR.

• Littering, illegal dumping, burning or burying trash, and leaving refuse behind are prohibited. If you bring it in, take it out.

• Damaging trees, vegetation, wildlife habitat, signs, or other state property is prohibited.

• Fireworks are prohibited on all DNR-managed lands.

• Excessive noise from music, generators, or other equipment that disturbs others or wildlife is prohibited.

• Operate your watercraft safely and responsibly. Obey all no-wake zones and avoid damaging shoreline vegetation when landing.

Pointe Mouillee is one of Michigan's premier wildlife management areas, providing critical habitat for waterfowl, fish, bald eagles, shorebirds, and countless other species. These regulations are in place to protect these natural resources while allowing everyone the opportunity to enjoy them responsibly.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Wayne County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit, and the Grosse Ile Police Department will continue to patrol these waters and public lands throughout the boating season. Violations of DNR Administrative Rules and Land Use Orders may result in citations, fines, removal from the property, or other enforcement action.

We ask everyone to do their part by respecting these protected areas, following the law, and helping preserve these unique natural resources for future generations.

Enjoy the water. Respect the resource. Leave it better than you found it.

UPDATE – MARINE BOLO

The Grosse Ile Police Department would like to provide an update regarding the missing kayaker.

We were notified by Brownstown Police Department administration on the evening of Saturday, July 11, that the missing 30-year-old male had been located. Tragically, he was found deceased. The recovery was made by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office south of Point Mouille.

On behalf of the Grosse Ile Police Department, we extend our sincere condolences to the victim's family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.

We would also like to thank the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, Monroe County Sheriff's Office, Brownstown Police Department, and all of the first responders and agencies who assisted with the search efforts.
