Coming up on June 6 on NJ PBS!

Road to Liberty Through Their Eyes is a truly remarkable story of perseverance, survival, and triumph, which captures the formative years of the American Revolution. It’s a story that needs to be re-told for a 21st century audience. Never again would the battle for American Independence be so vulnerable and so close to defeat as it was in those months leading up to Christmas 1776 and the Battles of Trenton and Princeton.

Narrated by Ian Kahn, who portrayed General George Washington in the acclaimed AMC television series, Turn: Washington's Spies, the story will unfold through quotes from contemporary journals and letters read by off-screen actors, as well as interviews with historians and experts on various topics and little-known stories that enable the audience to relive the formative years of the American Revolution; along with illustrations, paintings, maps, artifacts, military reenactors, and location footage that will provide a visual background as the Patriots struggle against the mightiest nation in the world to defend its fledgling country – the United States of America.

This documentary is made possible by the generous funding support of the S. Dillard and Adrienne Kirby Family Philanthropic Fund, and by additional support, including the Community Foundation of New Jersey, Princeton Partners, the New Jersey Historic Trust, The Kean Foundation, the F.M. Kirby Foundation, the New Jersey Historical Commission.

Wow!

Events like yesterday's amazing "History Happened Here" expo don't just happen. It was a huge lift by New Jersey Historical Commission - NJHC to get it all started. New Jersey Department of Education rolled it out. Thanks New Jersey Department of State led by Lieutenant Governor Dr. Dale Caldwell and folks like Will Krakower of New Jersey State Parks, Forests & Historic Sites for coming and providing some inspiration.

But most of all, THANKS to the amazing schools, teachers and some incredible students from across the Crossroads of the American Revolution National Heritage Area, who created such inspiring displays and presentations!

As the multi-year commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution in New Jersey (1776-1783) gets underway, we are amazed and humbled by this generation.
