This week, the State Parole Board proudly recognizes Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week and honors the dedicated professionals who work daily to ensure public safety while simultaneously helping persons under parole supervision reintegrate into their communities.

Parole officers protect our communities by holding people accountable, connecting them to critical resources, and encouraging lasting positive change. Their work often happens behind the scenes, but their impact on the lives of persons under supervision is felt throughout our communities.

Last week, Lieutenant Michael Cullen completed the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (LEEDA) Media and Public Relations course in Coatesville, PA. The course is comprised of a four and one-half day seminar focused on topics of communications, ethical reporting, agency branding, media engagement, crisis management planning, and social media. Congratulations, Lieutenant!

In continuing to celebrate Pride Month, State Parole Board LGBTQ+ Law Enforcement Liaisons attended the Asbury Park Pride Parade and the Pride Flag raising at the Division of Criminal Justice, with Attorney General Davenport. The State Parole Board is proud to serve as an ally to the LGBTQ+ community!

The State Parole Board is mourning the loss of Senior Parole Officer Antoine Turner, who lost his life Sunday evening in an off-duty motor vehicle accident. The State Parole Board offers its deepest condolences to Officer Turner’s family, friends, and colleagues.

Last week, the State Parole Board held its fourth annual Pride Flag ceremony in recognition of Pride Month, which occurs annually in June. Chairman Samuel J. Plumeri, Jr. provided opening remarks, acknowledging the history behind Pride Month and its importance in ongoing efforts to ensure equality for all. Lieutenant Attaa Alston, on behalf of the State Parole Board’s LGBTQ+ Liaisons, then spoke about the history and significance of the Pride Flag, and the State Parole Board’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that every person served by the agency feels treated with dignity, fairness, and respect. Pride Month gives us the chance to acknowledge the important contributions of LGBTQIA+ individuals within the State Parole Board and beyond, whose service, guidance, and courage benefit our entire community.
