📢 Congress must act now to prioritize cancer prevention, detection, research and palliative care in their year-end must-do list. With this action, more lives can be saved from a disease that is estimated to kill more than 609,000 Americans this year.

We're urging them to:

✔️ Increase funding for cancer research and prevention at National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Cancer Institute, and CDC
✔️ Pass the Screening Act
✔️ Pass

“Congress has a real opportunity to help address some of the most pressing issues facing cancer patients today. These important policies, spanning the entire cancer continuum, should be on lawmakers’ must-do list for the end of the year as each of their constituents knows someone who has been personally impacted by this disease.” -ACS CAN President Lisa Lacasse

Let's end the year by ending as we know it.

According to the CDC, if cigarette use continues at the current rate among youth in the United States, 5.6 million of today’s Americans under 18 will die early from a smoking-related illness. Cigarette smoking is also the leading cause of cancer mortality in the U.S.

We already know that Big To***co is constantly evolving to find new ways to target youth—particularly because they know to***co addiction is established primarily during adolescence. The industry does this by:

⚠️ Advertising its products in ways that reach youth, including on social media, the internet and in stores

⚠️ Creating flavors specifically to attract kids

We must work to prevent and reduce the use of all forms of to***co product use among youth by passing policies proven to do just that like comprehensive smoke-free laws, regular and significant to***co tax increases, and adequately funding state to***co prevention and cessation programs.

BREAKING: The Senate passed a bill that will make health care more affordable for millions of cancer patients, survivors, and their loved ones. ACS CAN volunteers sent tens of thousands of messages to members of Congress, held grassroots events in 12 states, posted to social media, and made phone calls—and it made a difference. Thank you for your hard work to make this happen!

We applaud the Senate for taking this important step to address affordability in Medicare and Marketplace plans through the . The bill caps prescription drug costs, which means that more cancer patients and survivors have affordable access to the treatment they need.

The bill also extends the expanded tax credits for three years, which will provide continued relief for millions of Americans, including individuals facing a cancer diagnosis and those at risk of developing the disease. But without a permanent extension, patients and survivors will face sky-rocketing premiums when the extension expires.

These are extraordinary victories, but we still have work to do. We urge the House to act swiftly and pass this bill to get it through the finish line without delay.

Unfortunately, the bill fails to address the , which denies more than 2 million Americans access to the lifesaving health coverage they need. Of those in the coverage gap, 60% are people of color, the majority of whom live in the South. This is a serious issue and one that our lawmakers cannot afford to ignore. Where you live should not determine if you live.

Together, we will keep fighting to close the Medicaid coverage gap. Stay tuned this week to see how you can let us know you’re with us. https://bit.ly/3QIUzn5

Today is World Cancer Day and I was lucky enough to share my cancer story with NJ Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi. In addition to thanking her for her support of A4815 to reform step therapy/fail first policies in NJ, Holly agreed to support maintaining the $7.8M state funding for to***co control programs, the establishment of a new non-lapsing $2M fund for the NJ Commission on Cancer Research (NJCCR), and to maintain the current $3.5M funding for the NJ Cancer Education and Early Detection (NJCEED) program. As a fellow survivor and former NCI-sponsored cancer researcher, I’m so truly grateful to know that we can count on her to have our back! Thanks again, Holly, it was my honor and pleasure to speak with you!

I am campaigning a fundraiser for my friend Panguluri's family whose three year old son is battling Ependymoma a rare malignant brain tumor. Any help that this family can get would be helpful, attached is the gofundme page for the fundraiser. Thanks.
