Today we morn with our BCFD brothers and sisters the loss of Lieutenant Rinaldo. This one hits close to home as Dillon was born and raised in Fair Lawn NJ. He served as a Volunteer growing up alongside his father. His love and passion for firefighting brought him to the City of Baltimore where in only a few years he was able to attain the rank of Lieutenant. The PFANJ are in contact with the IAFF and PGFD Peer Unit and will assist them and the families in any way needed.

God grant them peace and eternal rest. You have answered your final alarm....until we meet again......

From PFANJ President Steve McConlogue

I want to thank everyone who came out to attend the Newark LODD funerals this past Thursday and Friday. The sea of blue was nothing short of amazing and a fitting send-off for our fallen brothers, Augusto “Augie” Acabou and Wayne “Bear” Brooks. I especially want to thank and recognize my IAFF brothers & sisters from around the country and Canada that made the trip or have reached out to offer condolences and assistance.

I would also like to thank the dozens of PFANJ members who answered my request to assist with various support roles and to make this massive undertaking a success. Your efforts in the sweltering heat were appreciated, and they helped provide a proper service for our fallen brothers and their families, as well as the thousands in attendance. Also, many thanks to those who provided honor guards and pipes & drums; we applaud your dedication to the traditions of the fire service.

A heartfelt thank you is also in order for our peer support members who came out to handle this difficult incident. Your work is very much appreciated.

Last but not least, thank you to IAFF General President Edward Kelly and Frank Lima - IAFF GST for their immediate and continued support. As well as 1st DVP Jim Slevin, Rich MacKinnon, Erin Lynch, Ryan Heffernan, Sean DeCrane and Patrick Morrison for their assistance all week.

Finally, I would like to extend to my membership the many thanks and sincere appreciation we have received from the leadership of both Newark Fire Unions and their members. The gratitude expressed to me, our executive board, and our members makes me proud to represent you as your president. We will continue to support them as they deal with this difficult loss.

Thank you all very much!
