Transparency is fundamental to ensuring confidence in the work of law enforcement. Today my office announces a major expansion of the disclosure of police internal affairs information. http://bit.ly/3g9lRWY
Our Victims of Crime Compensation Office will get the support and leadership of a victim-centered office in its new home under VIVA, where VCCO will continue helping victims address their needs in the aftermath of crime. Please help us share their resources.
As we mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month, our office continues to respond to the crisis of violence that has increased in the aftermath of COVID-19 - most recently through the creation of our new Division of Violence Intervention and Victim Assistance (VIVA). Ensuring that we have a systematic, statewide plan for critical victim services is the right thing to do and a proven process for making our communities safer. VIVA will help law enforcement engage with victims, design restorative justice endeavors, and help stop future violence.
I am proud to announce the new Division of Violence Intervention and Victim Assistance, which will put community-based interventions and victim aid alongside law enforcement. VIVA is the epitome of the innovative work that has made NJ a leader in disrupting cycles of violence. Today at Eagle Rock Reservation with @ECPONJ1 we honored the nearly 3,000 Americans, including 750 New Jerseyans and 57 Essex County residents, who lost their lives during the 9/11 attacks. No matter how much time has passed, our lives remain forever changed.
Great to speak with @KimberlyEAtkins on On Point Radio today about New Jersey’s SAFE Office, which we recently launched to hold gunmakers accountable forms harms they cause communities, and our comprehensive efforts to curb gun violence. Listen here: https://wbur.fm/3ApzBTE
Proud to stand with Governor Phil Murphy, the US Attorney's Office for New Jersey, and the federal government to defend a woman's right to choose in New Jersey. And defending that right means protecting patients, their providers, and the places they turn to for care, free from the threat of harm. https://bit.ly/3PJw60o
Thank you @whyyradiotimes for having me on to discuss @GovMurphy's Gun Safety 3.0 package signed into law this week. This legislation will help keep residents safe while addressing the epidemic of gun violence, even after the misguided Bruen decision. https://bit.ly/3aj76Ow
I was proud to stand with Governor Phil Murphy as he signed the Gun Safety 3.0 package of bills passed by the Legislature to protect New Jerseyans. These commonsense laws will save lives, and I am committed to enforcing these and all of New Jersey's firearms laws to keep our residents safe.
The Supreme Court of the United States decision on Bruen will not stop us from using every available tool to defend New Jersey’s tough gun safety laws. I stand ready with Governor Phil Murphy and New Jersey State Police to do all that we can to protect our communities.
If you have two minutes this afternoon, listen to Melissa's story.
Her path from addiction to public service inspires us all. Today, on #InternationalRecoveryDay, we celebrate those who are showing others the way.
With the New Jersey Department of Labor, we're fighting every day for the residents of this State.
That’s why we take seriously our enforcement of New Jersey's "ban the box" law.

Far too often, companies actively discourage and reject job-seekers with a criminal record. It's a practice that disproportionately affects people of color.
Today we're taking action to hold employers accountable.
9-11 Memorials
Today, we remember one of our country's darkest days. But we also remember the selflessness of the first responders and law enforcement officers who keep us safe, now and every day.
In the wake of a natural disaster, watch out for scams involving "home improvement contractors" - like plumbers, electricians, and roofers - who demand upfront payment and then fail to complete the job.
Here are some tips to keep this from happening to you:
Tropical Storm Ida may be gone, but in New Jersey we’re still digging out.
If you suspect that someone is overcharging you for essential items or services, you can report violations of our state’s price-gouging law by calling (973) 504-6240 or visiting njconsumeraffairs.gov.
In the wake of Wednesday's storm, our state's price-gouging laws are in effect.
Our message is clear: if you prey on the victims of this tragedy, we will find you and we will make you pay. https://bit.ly/3kYaNdM
Storm damage can be expensive and a pain to fix. Don't get lured in by contractors who promise to do the job with no out-of-pocket expense to you.
Over the past year, we’ve taken hundreds of illegal “ghost guns” off the streets. These untraceable weapons are a favorite of criminals, since they’re sold without the background checks or serial numbers that federal law typically requires.
But we're fighting back.
To all who have lost loved ones to the opioid epidemic, we share your grief and your anger at those who profited from your suffering. And we are committed to holding them accountable.
Thank you to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and Tigger Stavola Foundation for hosting tonight's event.
We honor Timothy Piazza’s life by holding accountable those who engage in illegal hazing. Thank you to Jim and Evelyn Piazza for their advocacy, and to Governor Phil Murphy and the Legislature for giving us the tools to enforce the law.
Sometimes, you just need to see things for yourself.
Today, I joined New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Shawn LaTourette and City of Camden Mayor Vic Carstarphen to see the damage caused by an illegal waste dump site in Camden.
We're committed to cleaning it up.
Elder Abuse isn't just a problem for people in your past and present. If unaddressed, it will become a problem in YOUR future.
This #SeniorCitizensDay, be part of the solution. Be aware of what's happening with your older loved ones and neighbors, and know how to spot the signs.
A major development in our effort to stop interstate gun trafficking: Today, we're announcing charges against 11 members of a criminal network that sold illegal guns into NJ. We've seized 20 illegal firearms, including 2 assault rifles and 8 ghost guns. https://bit.ly/2W6aTr2
Why are "ghost guns" so dangerous? They're designed to take advantage of a perceived loophole in federal gun laws, and so they're typically sold without a federal background check. That makes them especially attractive to criminals, domestic abusers, and terrorists.
We need to close this federal loophole. But in the meantime, we're working overtime to stop the flow of ghost guns into New Jersey. Governor Phil Murphy signed a law in 2018 criminalizing these dangerous weapons, and in the last 12 months, we've taken 200+ ghost guns off the streets.
At the AG's Office, we're working around the clock to implement Governor Phil Murphy’s vision for ending gun violence in New Jersey.
This week was an especially busy one. Here are some of the highlights: https://youtu.be/0xVyg7Jd0g8
Saturday's gun buyback events took 941 firearms out of our communities. It's simply one part of the broader violence reduction strategy led by Governor Phil Murphy, Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver, and our office to keep New Jerseyans safe.
We won't fix the juvenile justice system until we treat every child in the system as we would our own.
Today, we delivered on that commitment, with Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver signing a bill that underscores New Jersey's status as a national leader on juvenile justice reform.
Today in Wildwood, law enforcement and the community walked the streets together. We’re committed to doing everything we can to make our neighborhoods safe for all.
Gun Buyback August 8, 2021
Yesterday, we held 5 successful gun buyback events across the state.
As we work to end gun violence, I thank New Jerseyans for doing their part to protect our communities.
More to come!
